This is the most extensive trailer yet and includes a few new scenes that we hadn’t seen before, but which will be immediately recognizable to most, including the Quad Studio shooting and the casino fight that preceded ‘Pac’s murder.

For whatever reason, Netflix continues to throw money at Adam Sandler for new films, despite the fact that he’s about 20 years past his prime. I imagine people are actually watching these train wrecks because Netflix keeps ordering more. Here’s a new music video for “Mr. DJ”, a track Jennifer Hudson and Ma$e recorded for Sandler’s latest, Sandy Wexler. The flick, which stars Sandler, Hudson, Arsenio Hall, Kevin James and Terry Crews among others, is about a 90’s Hollywood talent manager and it premieres on April 14th.
A new report from Variety reveals that Jay Z, in conjunction his new partners at The Weinstein Company, is planning both a narrative film and a separate documentary television series about the life and death of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin. Jay recently acquired the rights to two books about Martin’s 2012 murder by George Zimmerman: Rest in Power: The Enduring Life of Trayvon Martin, written by Trayvon’s parents Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, and Suspicion Nation: The Inside Story of the Trayvon Martin Injustice and Why We Continue to Repeat It by NBC correspondent Lisa Bloom, which will form the basis for the film and the series. While both projects appear to still be in the preliminary stages, with deals being negotiated as recently as last month’s Oscars weekend, the TV series will apparently be a 6-episode limited run similar to the Kalief Browder series that Jay and the Weinsteins produced and which is currently airing on the Spike network.
Don’t think for a second that the success of Straight Outta Compton isn’t gonna spawn 100 shitty rapper biopics, because it definitely is. I was extremely skeptical that this Tupac flick was going to be any good when they announced it so soon after the N.W.A film’s run and then said they were gonna have Gravy reprise his role as Biggie. The fact that Afeni was heavily involved before her untimely passing last month, and the very capable Benny Boom was directing, still didn’t convince me. All that said, this trailer does not look horrible and I am now cautiously optimistic.
Tupac would have turned 45 today. All Eyez On Me arrives in theaters on November 11th.
The latest installment in Ice Cube’s Barbershop film series arrives April 15th and it will feature appearances from Nicki Minaj, Common, Eve, Tyga and of course Cube himself. Check out the new trailer above.
After months of filming in Chicago, we finally get a proper trailer for the latest Spike Lee Joint, Chi-Raq. Set on the violence-ridden streets of America’s third largest metropolis, the film borrows from the narrative of a Greek myth to examine the topics of gun and gang violence, sexual power and the Black American ghetto. Withholding love to stop war? That’s an interesting strategy to say the least.
Chi-Raq is a modern day adaptation of the ancient Greek play “Lysistrata” by Aristophanes. After the murder of a Child by a stray bullet, a group of women led by Lysistrata organize against the on-going violence in Chicago’s Southside creating a movement that challenges the nature of race, sex and violence in America and around the world.
The film stars Samuel L. Jackson, Nick Cannon, Wesley Snipes, Jennifer Hudson, Angela Bassett, and John Cusack and opens in theaters December 4th.
Ice Cube and a star-studded cast are currently hard at work on a new Barbershop film and today we get a behind the scenes peek at the film that is slated to hit theaters next year. Nicki Minaj, Common, Eve, Anthony Anderson and Cedric The Entertainer all appear.
In related news, it was reported earlier today that the surviving members of N.W.A will reunite on June 27th at the Staples Center in LA for The BET Experience.
