Dez Bryant recently went on an Instagram diatribe about race in America which touched on a number of points, but the gist of which was, that everybody in this country should be able to succeed with hard work and resilience despite whatever obstacles they may face, including racism. If that sounds like a Republican talking point to you, that’s because it most certainly is. And so obviously, when a public figure makes unfortunate comments about race, you want to bring in Lil Wayne for some commentary because he has such a great grasp on the realities of discrimination in this country.
Host Shannon Sharpe had already responded to Dez’s comments last week and he did a great job, but he goes in again in this clip and that’s what really what makes it worth watching. Wayne mumbled for a few minutes about “leading by example” but really didn’t have anything constructive to add to the conversation. Shannon on the other hand, dropped gems about systematic racism, the vastly different experiences of rich Black athletes and everyday African-Americans and the hypocrisy of the current fight against opiate addiction as it compares to the brutal War on Drugs of the 80’s and 90’s.
Continue below for a bonus, off air interview that Wayne and Skip did where they talk about Tha Carter 3 and Skip aplogizes for not going to see Wayne when he was locked up on Rikers and somehow manages to blame the suits at ESPN. They also discuss the recent suicide of former Patriot Aaron Hernandez, the death of Prince and whether or not Wayne has any big career regrets. At around the 13:40 mark, Skip asks Wayne about his recent claim that he’s now signed to Roc Nation and he gives kind of a vague confirmation and heaps praise on Jay Z, who he says just wants to help in any way he can.

Lil Dicky and his brain drop their new short film/music video for “Pillow Talking,” off his debut album Professional Rapper. Dicky would be hard pressed to top some of his more outrageous previous visuals but he certainly went the distance here, recruiting John C. Reilly to play the role of God and enlisting some folks from the visual effects team behind Jurassic World for animation.
