Currensy – 9/30 (Mixtape)

Friday, September 30th, 2016

Shit man, Spitta almost let two full calendar months pass without dropping a mixtape or EP. Even though he’s been dropping loosies, videos and episodes of his Rap N Lowriders series, that much of a stretch with out a proper project is not the 2016 Spitta we’ve become accustomed to. Tonight he squeezes a new 8-track mixtape in right before the end of September with his appropriately titled 9/30. He’s got appearances from Fiend, Cornerboy P, Marcelo, TY and C-Sick on this one.

Saigon – Blessing

Friday, September 30th, 2016

On his new “pro-gun anthem”, Saigon looks to explain the “other side” of the gun control debate in America.

In his words:

This is a track that gives the other angle of legal and illegal firearms in this Country. It sorta depicts the “Id rather be caught with it than without it” mentality alot of inner city kids have today when it comes to carrying guns….. Is it right or wrong? You be the judge.

Yeah, so gun control is always a fun topic. I grew up in New York which as you probably know, has some of the strictest gun laws in the country. As a result, the vast majority of the guns I have encountered in my life have been neither legal nor registered and were owned by people that most law-abiding citizens would classify as criminals. When I was 17 I lost one of my closest friends to murder by gun and for a year or so, I didn’t want guns anywhere near me. I eventually got over that moral stand because it’s a hard one to take in the hood, plus time heals old wounds.

Saigon mentions the mentality of preferring to be “judged by 12” over being “carried by six”, and in some of our neighborhoods that can be a very valid concept. Had my boy been armed that night, would he still be here? It’s hard to say, but there’s no denying that there are real threats out there. Not to mention that many of the pro-gun NRA maniacs in this country are hopeless racists who would sooner shoot a Black man than give him directions.
