The Name of Kanye’s Album Doesn’t Matter

I’m going to share with you a little secret that I figured out around the time Kanye changed the title of his album from Swish to Waves: The title of this album does not matter. I mean, that’s the message he’s sending us with all of these impromptu changes isn’t it? I think that in his mind, whatever the album ends up being called is certainly going to be an important part of the overall aesthetic of the LP, but he also knows that the only thing that really matters to us is the music.

Traditional logic dictates that you have to give an album a name and then roll out a marketing push to get that name into people’s heads. Because you can’t buy an album if you don’t know what it’s called right? But Kanye knows that his album is going to sell no matter what its called. It’s also a safe bet that it will be critically lauded, regardless of its title.

Last night in a tweet, Ye announced that the acronym for the new title is TLOP. He’s offering tickets to the premiere event and his Yeezy Season 3 show at MSG (plus a fresh pair of Yeezys) to whomever can guess what it means. By all means, head over to his timeline and try to win yourself those tickets, but the album is due to arrive in two days and we’re out here playing album title Hangman. I can’t think of a single other rapper that a major label would tolerate this kind of indecision from at this stage of the game. But that goes to show you just how supremely confident our boy is in his product.
