Video: Rae Sremmurd – Tim Westwood Freestyle

The other day, Ebro had a few writers and editors from Complex up at Hot 97 to debate their 50 Best Albums of 2015 list and the placement of Rae Sremmurd’s debut album Sremm Life at #3 was a one of the main points of contention. Ebro and Rosenberg pointed out (rightfully) that it makes very little sense to have Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly in the #1 slot, and then have a far less substantive project like Sremm Life just two slots below.

To be clear, I enjoyed a bunch of tracks from the Sremmurd album and I would agree that the fact that they’re not spitting any life-changing bars doesn’t detract from the quality of the album. I just think #3 is an absurd placement during a year that saw the release of some other really great albums. But of course, end-of-year internet lists exist solely to provoke debate and generate social media activity, so you should always consider that before getting yourself all riled up.

Anyway, Ebro specifically mentioned the Sremm boys’ hesitation to freestyle for him when they visited the station and suggested that they may not be writing their own verses. In response to those comments, Swae and Jimmi recently went in for a good 20 minutes, even squeezing in a shot at Ebro at one point, during a recent trip to Westwood’s show on Capital Xtra.

Continue below for a clip of the pair speaking on the Ebro comments.
