Pharrell & Lil Wayne’s Managers Partner with Guy Oseary to Launch Maverick Management Group

This morning Billboard broke the news that some of the most powerful music managers in the world, including reps for Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Pharrell and Alicia Keys, are forming like Voltron to launch a new venture called Maverick. Lead by Guy Oseary, who has guided the careers of superstars like Madonna, U2 and Keys, the new company is a partnership with concert behemoth Live Nation. Maverick will look to take advantage of the resurgence in popularity of live events and new technological advancements to create business opportunities for their clients and change the direction of the music industry.

Gee Roberson and Cortez Bryant (Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj), Caron Veazey (Pharrell, iamOTHER), Adam Lever (Miley Cyrus, Britney Spears) and Ron Laffitte have all signed on as founding partners. Oseary is well connected in the fields of entertinament (he also runs a Hollywood talent firm) and technology, with his A-Grade venture capital firm holding over $150 million in investments in rising tech powers such as Soundcloud, Spotify and Uber. According to the Billboard report, Maverick will look to leverage all of these resources in their new ventures. On the other hand, Oseary also recently helped oversee the roll-out of the new U2 album in conjunction with the release of Apple’s iOS 6, which turned out to be an unmitigated disaster.

What this all means for fans and consumers remains to be seen, but I would imagine we can expect to see some of our favorite artists working even more aggressive concert and festival schedules than they already are, and an increased industry influence on platforms we love such as Soundcloud (this is probably not a good thing). However it ends up playing out, one thing is for sure, these people will continue to haul in enormous amounts of money.

In related news, Snoop Dogg has inked a deal to release his new album, which is being produced entirely by Pharrell, through iamOTHER. Stevie Wonder and Charlie Wilson have reportedly been tapped for guest appearances.
