Pharrell Signs with Columbia for Solo LP

After teasing at a new Rap-free solo project during his recent interview with Joe LaPuma for Complex, Pharrell has made it official with a new deal with Columbia Records. The project is not yet titled, but we know that it will be out next year and will feature the single “Happy”, which P originally recorded for the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack.

Here’s what he told Complex for their Best of 2013 digital cover story:

Your verse on the “Pretty Flacko” Remix was one of the best of 2012. Do you still enjoy rapping?
Sure. I love rapping. But—something’s coming, and I’m not rapping on it.

No? A full body of work with no rapping?
No rapping. It’s focused. Like I told you, that’s the difference between 30 and 40. ’Cause I was 30, now I’m 40—and I’m not rapping.

Are you talking about a solo album?
