Last week, Lil Wayne revealed that it’s interest that he’s lost. “I got bored,” Wayne said of hip-hop in a radio interview with DJ Drama. “It does get pretty boring when it comes to the rapping and all that kind of stuff. I’ve been doing it since I was eight. I’m about to be 30 in September and I’m still rapping. [I] kind of feel like I’m getting old.”

knowing when to retire to preserve your legacy is everything

    ====================
    i agree with this

because ma$e and d’angelo retired at the height of their popularity

    could say andre 3k too

makes news whenever they re appear for the odd concert or song

  27. Indiana Ron Says:

people stick around too long, wear their welcome out and the mystique gets lost

^ Is there a such thing as mystique anymore? In this age of seeing the artist before hearing the music, seeing the making of the song and video etc. Even jay z doing commercials and ads he would never have done years ago.

  34. Danny Ocean Says:

knowing when to retire to preserve your legacy is everything

    ^
cosign the importance of a sound exit strategy

in any field or aspect of life

  35. F YOU PAY ME! Says:

niggas that say hov is staying to long no nothing

the longer hov is in the game, the further forward he pushes the culture

  36. &What?! Says:

Co-sign Hov to the fullest though.

Continues to push the boundaries (nh), and he gave us classics.

  37. Harlem World Says:

gave love x hip hop atl a chance,

just to see what the hype was about & what stevie j was doing these days, no homo

wow, this shit is another embarassment to my race

    only explanation for this is

alotta women cant function without some type of drama in their lives

  38. The Shot Clock Says:

the longer hov is in the game, the further forward he pushes the culture

    ^

bullshit. his “reign” is one of the worst things to happen to hip hop. camel’s elevation was the worst thing to result from big and pacs deaths. the most overrated rapper in history

  39. Harlem World Says:

^ Is there a such thing as mystique anymore?

    ============
    sure there is

but in a job where people love to be heard and serenaded with praise

youre not gonna get many people who like to stay away from the camera, or are introvert

if a young rakim allah was a new artist in 2012, his tweets and photos would be quoted in every hip hop blog and website

ive said before how jay x nas are both very camera shy, no homo

must be a generational thing in hip hop

  40. Troyvul Says:

    Ovo though >

  41. S.I.C.K Says:

I’d be camel shy and camera shy if I was Hov.

  42. Harlem World Says:

bullshit. his “reign” is one of the worst things to happen to hip hop. camel’s elevation was the worst thing to result from big and pacs deaths. the most overrated rapper in history
    ==========================

    yes and no

like in politics you have hardliners – who want to keep things as they are

and reformists – who want to change things and do things different

i guess jay is that balance – his music isnt soft and effeminate and clearly aimed at kids

but hes still willing to take risks, and try new things

e.g now every hip hop artist wants a live band at their concerts

this was unthinkable back in the days of a dj and a rapper

  43. &What?! Says:

the most overrated rapper in history

    ^

Greatest rapper to ever do it, (or perhaps second behind Big)

  44. Danny Ocean Says:

niggas that say hov is staying to long no nothing

    ^
    look kiddo

there are exceptions to every rule.

    hov is an outlier.

for every hov, I can name ten thousand rappers who support my statement about the importance of exit strategies

so please, find a stronger argument of STFU

  45. Indiana Ron Says:

bullshit. his “reign” is one of the worst things to happen to hip hop. camel’s elevation was the worst thing to result from big and pacs deaths. the most overrated rapper in history

^ The world wasn’t listening when he was creating his best work, but one could argue that even his subpar efforts eclipse most of his peers. Jay z’s reign isn’t soley based on the his craft,it is a combination of his accolades, personal life, stature. When jay doesnt have an album out he is still very much in the public eye and very visible because of the lifestyle he leads.

  46. The Shot Clock Says:

e.g now every hip hop artist wants a live band at their concerts

this was unthinkable back in the days of a dj and a rapper

    ^

well i mean LL did the live band first if you remember on MTV unplugged, but camel’s unplugged was pivotal as well.

i’m not saying he hasn’t had a major influence on the culture. i’m saying that he was at the center of the rapper as mogul as ceo movement. where everybody just wants to pimp the system and get rich…..except the system is our music, its black art..we’re pimpiing ourselves.
