Video: Kanye West x Anja Rubik’s 25 Magazine

For the launch of Anja Rubik’s new magazine, 25, photographer and director Barnaby Roper teamed up with Kanye West to make a video dedicated to the issue’s theme of eroticism. Rubik knew West from bumping into him at various fashion events over the years, and they became close friends when he started working on his clothing line (she’s since opened both of his runway shows, and he rapped about her in “Way Too Cold”). “He’s like a machine, not only with music but also with fashion and videos,” Rubik told us earlier this week. “He’s a workaholic, and always talking about all these crazy thoughts and images running through his head.”

When Rubik was putting together the first issue of 25, she and West discussed how she wanted the magazine to approach sex. “It’s funny. We talked about porn looks these days, and he agreed with me that there’s no porn out there that is beautiful aesthetically and integrates fashion to make a beautiful image,” she explained. “We were on the same page about a lot of things.” He agreed to work with Roper in a video that explores some of the sensual imagery from the magazine. “I thought it would be really interesting to make it seem like we were entering Kanye’s head,” Rubik said. “It’s not pornographic, but it’s very sensual.”

In the latest issue of Rolling Stone, producer/DJ Deadmau5 was clear about his view on fellow EDM DJs not making their live shows challenging enough. Here’s what he had to say in the interview:

“David Guetta has two iPods and a mixer and he just plays tracks – like, ‘Here’s one with Akon, check it out!’,” he said. “Even Skrillex isn’t doing anything too technical. He has a laptop and a MIDI recorder, and he’s just playing his shit … People are, thank God, smartening up about who does what – but there’s still button-pushers getting paid half a million. And not to say I’m not a button-pusher. I’m just pushing a lot more buttons.”

His words caught the attention of A Guy Called Gerald, a UK dance pioneer who is also known to be pretty outspoken. He published an open letter on his blog directed at Deadmau5. Sounds like he’s had enough of Deadmau5 slamming other DJs.

“I know who you are. You are some record company or failed journalist asshole left over from the last century who is jealous of the way electronic music is working in this brave fast new century. The only button you and people like you are interested in pushing is a nuke for the Palestinians. You come into our system that we have nurtured for the last 25 years, trick hardworking people into giving you their money, con honest promoters, take large sums of money out of the system and then spit back into our faces that YOU are tricking everyone.

“I agree there are loads of people like you who do fake it. It is easy with the software you are using. Don’t worry we are going to find ways of stopping you. You greedy rat head fuck.”

    Wow wee

Gotta read that with the Ether instrumental playing in the background!

    Cosign HW.

    This was bullshit.

Flashing a bunch of images with nudity, bondage, Crosses, pentagrams, and othe assorted gothic iconography is not edgy. Nor is it thoughtful. It’s nothing at all if it’s not anchored in something the viewer can use to communicate with the piece, like an emotion. It just ends up looking like something that’s supposed to shock old, out-of-touch, pearl-grabbers & paranoid Illuminati niggas.

It barely registers as art for me because I don’t see any intention, method, or technique presented here.

This reeks of slapping shit together from a drawing board & giving it meaning after the fact. And I know, because I was a sometimes perpetrator of this in architecture school lol.

whoa!!!! hahahahaa all these electronic DJ’s are ridiculous anyways…I can’t believe that it has gotten so popular in the mainstream across the whole world. That shit gives me a headache after 15 minutes. That Skrillex shit is awful. But these house/electro/whateverthefuck DJ’s are more bitchy and combative to each other than rappers.

Talk about underground vs. mainstream in hip-hop, those dudes are way worse. Only a matter of time before egos fuck up that whole wave.

Jackson, who has been married for 22-years, met Adams while he was working as an announcer for the New Jersey Nets and she was dancing at a gentleman’s club in New York. Jackson was first approached by Shaw in April in Memphis.

The man — who Jackson later identified as Shaw — showed the NBA coach a “folder containing some of the compromising photos” and a CD that he said contained “recordings of voice mail messages” that Jackson “left for Adams during their affair.”

When Jackson asked what he sought for the photos and recordings, Shaw replied, “I want to be made whole.” Shaw, who claimed to have found the compromising material in a storage locker he had purchased for $3500, said he wanted money to fix his teeth and get his car out of an impound lot.

Jackson eventually gave Shaw $5000. The Warriors’ coach contacted the authorities after the extortionists contacted his wife. Jackson offered up to $200,000 to get the photos back

Wait…so they could have taken 200k but wanted more?!?!? Damn, they got too greedy
