Video: Nas Interview w/ the.LIFE Files Pt. 2

Check out the second and final installment from our sit down with legendary rapper Nas on the roof top of his Manhattan hotel. In this clip Nas gives his thoughts on the more simplistic rap songs that dominate the radio today and names the few guys who are helping hip hop by having their own unique style. Nas also speaks on the presidency of Barack Obama saying he doesn’t see how anyone could take the job and not go crazy and admits that Lauryn Hill may be the most talented person that he’s worked with. Oh yeah, don’t expect a new Nas mixtape any time soon although he does love them.

I’m just thinking of the long term effects on the human race. Basic writing is barely taught, never mind cursive. We are very well on our way to an entire generation of humans who will lack the ability to write a sentence on a piece of paper. So, at that point, what happens when the power goes out? Especially considering the demise of physical books with the advent of electronic press. Basic human interaction is at an all time low with the advent of “social networking”. And auto fill, autocorrect, and spell check has the possibility of rendering us illiterate.

Training the mind to memorize phone numbers, formulas, equations, and important quantities of basic information is good for our brains, aka the most important muscle in our bodies. But now there’s cell phones, calculators, google searches, and wiki pages. What have we gained vs what we’ve lost? Now apply the effects over a generation or two.

Technology just amplifies our brain and what we can do with our thoughts.

A lot of people well become dependent upon technology, but they were not going to build machinery, medicines or policies that help mankind.

The geniuses will use computers to help society while the average joes and idiots will use computers to watch porn.

I don’t see how making a world of information available at a person’s fingertips can ever be a bad thing.

Those people who choose not to utilize this powerful tool, at least in part, for the accumulation of knowledge are as worthless today as they would have been in the stone ages.

Difference is, Darwinism would have taken care of them much more swiftly back then.

As far as communication is concerned, entire languages has developed out of the growth of tech. From the binary that runs your computer, to the modern hieroglyphs scattered across this very site.

I’ll concede that a lot of people are less effective at communication in a traditional sense, but communication itself has shifted.

    eh, sure.

But your losing me. I doubt the government is keeping scientist from curing AIDs. A lot of literature on the subject would suggest that governments are actually driving/funding these projects that help humanity.

But I do believe if it wasn’t in the governments best interest certain things would be stop.

  39. jderrida Says:

    I get it.

Harlem World was some sort of view of Jay-E that he thinks everyone else believes too.

People tend to have a perception of an artist that I and many others don’t see.

I think its less of Jay-E being a contradiction and more of Jay-E not matching your perception of what you, Harlem World, expect of the man.

  40. cOLD Says:

  41. Troubleshooter1900 Says:

Actually, the mind is freer from performing smaller tasks with smartphones and the advancement of new computer/digitized technologies.

It allows you to perform greater tasks and have clarity of thoughts and fast synapses, so to speak. Pick up a copy of the Scientific Journal or browse their site for actual cerebral experiments.

Dummies will always be dumb b. It’s always been a small margin of the human species that keeps us all on the cutting edge.

  45. JDS of the Cobra Kai Dojo Says:

Jay E has never been some type of freedom fighter in my eyes.

He was just a very cryptic person. He carried a heavy aura of what I would phrase as “bayou mysticism”. He spoke on things that could be vaguely understood and a lot of times out of the realm of the common listener’s understanding. His rhymes are Black, but they aren’t as straightforward as a Kweli.

That’s why I don’t see his relationship with with a similarly mysterious person like a Rothschild as anything but a natural progression.

Same goes for the Real Niggas that Marched, there where fuax niggas that didn’t give a damn.

Or when Che stood up in Bolivia, Argentina, South Africa, and the Congo, Other niggas wasn’t doing a damned.
