Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV to Drop Digitally Following MTV VMA’s

MTV announced this morning that Tha Carter IV will drop digitally at midnight following the MTV Video Music Awards this coming Sunday.

New York, NY (August 22, 2011) – In a music industry first, Hip-Hop megastar and super mogul, Lil Wayne will release his highly-anticipated album, Tha Carter IV, in its entirety online via retail sites including Itunes, Amazon and more when the clock strikes midnight following the “2011 MTV Video Music Awards” this Sunday, August 28th. The physical CD will be available at all major retail stores on August 29th. This innovative album release designates Lil Wayne as the first artist ever to release an album digitally after an award show and is the culmination of what is already a huge night for him with his performance and nominations for “Best Hip-Hop Video” and “Best Collaboration.”

“I am extremely excited to be the first artist to utilize such an amazing idea. I hope that I can open the door for others,” stated Lil Wayne.

Ronald “Slim” Williams, CEO, Cash Money Records said, “The MTV Video Music Awards are one of the most watched and respected shows in the industry. Wayne is one of the most respected and prolific artists in the industry. By pairing the release of Tha Carter IV with the VMAs, it will certainly add to the overall anticipation and excitement for fans everywhere for what will surely be an unforgettable evening.”

“Lil Wayne continues to change the game, this time with a new release strategy that demonstrates the power of the VMAs to grab the attention of music fans,” said Stephen Friedman, President, MTV. “After our millions of viewers experience the VMAs, they can go online at midnight and download the album they’ve all been waiting for.”

You gotta love how these dudes are patting themselves on the back for this “groundbreaking” new strategy of releasing an album digitially on a day other than Tuesday. The industry should have been employing these kinds of outside the box, “event” type release strategies.

I think pain on YMCMB now
    ————–

I know he felt Konvict, but Kon had T-Pain when he was hot. That’s the problem with niggaz man…you gotta ride that wave. Gaga is still signed to Kon til this day! I mean, it could be that Akon just aint letting her go without a fight…but T-Pain, along with other niggaz like say Memphis Bleek or State Prop, just dont know how to ride a wave. Let’s include Juelz in that too… Skull gang. Laughable.

^to an extent but once the wave reaches it’s peak it’s a wrap
Be honest after the top 3 who on YMCMB will actually see a album?
All them niggas stuck on the bench

What peak? To me, the only time a peak is reached is when an artists music just doesnt sound current. Rakim tried to make a comeback…and big ups to him, but nah son. THATS a peak. Black Rob…nigga. Spare me. The list goes on…Some niggaz could still pop if they stay with the people that made them who they are. Look at the Wu!

Rocafella was still that click when all the bullshit came about. Even State Prop broke up internally…shit didnt have to go down like that. But Look at Ye…he still fucks with Jay. Why? He is still riding that wave…

True, but my point was he still has that Rocafella love. The Rocafella tie is still with him and thats what people want to see. Til this day, Kanye is still signed to Rocafella Records. So, really Kanye is STILL riding that wave.

And fuck all them other niggaz on YMCMB. They dont even count. I’m talking about a star that forsakes the hand that feeds them and tries to be too independent (ie The Game). Game wouldve been way bigger if he wouldve stayed on that wave and in his place. You see the 3 headed monster knows their position… Dre, Em, and 50. Mothafuckas don’t understand how shit works.
