Video: Drake Confirms The Weeknd on Take Care

Drake talks a bit about the album and and also credits Weeknd’s boys for directing the video for “Marvin’s Room”.

“Not only did he inspire me to get out there and sing better on stage, he inspired me writing wise, music wise, just to better my product,” Drake tells Billboard.com’s The Juice on The Weeknd.

Drake continued to tell us that we should expect to hear The Weeknd on his sophomore album, “Take Care.” “He’s on my album a lot,” Drake says of The Weeknd. “We really collaborated a lot on this album.”

After the jump, Drake shares the stage with The Weeknd during his set at the 2nd annual OVO Festival and they do a medley of both of their versions of “Trust Issues”.

So can this dude Weeknd sing? Drake should let him sing every single R&B part of this album because his whining/crooning is horrible.

  2. rex hussla Says:

Before the interview ended, Game also made a joke regarding Jay-Z’s fertility, saying that he may not be able to have kids, adding a jab about how “Beyonce ain’t pregnant.” Though he may not have used the word “sterile” correctly, his joke followed one about Jay-Z impregnating the show’s host.

“I don’t know. Jay-Z don’t seem too sterile,” he said in a joking manner. “Beyonce ain’t pregnant.”

  3. A chick Says:

I must be the only one who sees that Jay & B are too selfish to have kids.

A kid would undoubtedly knock them off their “throne” musically (bey for certain) and ain’t nann one havin that. Even if it means being old ass parents.

    I can dig it.

You’re giving him too much credit. It’s not as if he was so far ahead of them (time-wise) that you can grant him sole credit.

Tim’s OG sound may have cracked the door open to the mainstream, but he was working with black people. The Neptunes went for the gusto earlier and got that white girl money first. And they got those chances because everything in every genre they touched was gold at the time – they were making pop rap hits, grimey rap hits, R&B hits and pop hits. Then Tim joined in later with Justin Timberlake (whose first single was a Neptunes production) and added the techno shit later.

  293. AmpGeez a.k.a. Smoke Greene Says:

Are you saying the Neptunes bit his sound or copied his formula?
    ==============================================
I’m saying they are directly influenced by his sound & creativity but were musically inclined enough to take it left.

But they undoubtedly studied his moves as did every producer who came up in the 90’s. He brought a new level of clarity & ingenuity to urban music & eventually to music as a whole.

Ray J is a shit artist. Period.

But while we’re making random points, I think it’s interesting that Timbaland’s style got bitten several times over to the point where he was forced to keep switching up until he ended up making shitty techno beats.

On the other hand, The Neptunes have pretty much maintained the same sound, given or take a faster tempo and no one ever tried to sound like them. They’re like the Premier to Timbaland’s RZA – if that makes any sense (in Preme’s prime, no one really attempted to bite him – Pete did a few scratched hooks and Statik Selektah stays making decent imitations, but that’s it. RZA’s formula got raped by Yeezy, Just, Bink, Heatmakerz and whoever else. Just like Tim got ripped by Polo, Storch, Rockwilder and so on).

    =============================
My point wasn’t as random as you make it seem (though it provided a good segue into your own random comment, but I digress…) My comment on Ray j was in response to this…

“The Neptunes went for the gusto earlier and got that white girl money first. And they got those chances because everything in every genre they touched was gold at the time – they were making pop rap hits, grimey rap hits, R&B hits and pop hits. ”

I only brought up the Ray J shit to point out that The Neptunes had their fair share of flops too, as with the Madonna album, the Common album, the Philly’s Most Wanted album, the shelved Clipse & Kelis albums that weren’t good enough to come out, etcetra, etcetra, not to mention all the recycled beats they were passing around for a couple years. They may be “hotter” right now but Timbaland’s focus obviously isn’t making “urban” music like it used to be. If you look at their careers as a whole, Timbaland comes out the “better” producer.

P.S. – Those calls that were coming in in the mid 00’s aren’t coming in anymore. So miss me with that “for the love” shit.

Them niggas need them checks & the hope that working with one of these new acts can help them spark up some heat or even better, some relevance with the youth.

Cause Timbo ain’t too much older then P & Chad. And nobodies getting any younger.

  306. Shooter Says:

lol @ how bad some of the lyrics in WTT are

    “thats pig latin, itchbay”

Take your pick, Jackson, Tyson, Jordan,”

  307. Deen Says:

You make The Neptunes sound desperate. ROFL. If they are, then Tim is on some Pookie shit.

Timbaland was on that Madonna album too. Had the first single even. Don’t forget that.

If people aren’t calling The Neptunes, then people aren’t calling Tim either. Simple as. They got priced out of the rap market. For both producers, getting work in 2011 depends on THEIR willingness to yield on the check and musical snobbery.

Ultimately, the only thing I hold against Tim as a producer is the fact that he never made a full length project with a GOOD rapper. He had placements and did shit for his label(s), but he never worked with MCs of a certain caliber on a full project. Pharrell and Chad did that with the Clipse – twice. All the other GOAT producers have done it too. The best MC Tim produced a full length for was Ms. Jade and that shit was mishandled badly. Good album too.

    Neptunes >>>>

BUT any PRODUCER will tell you that Timbaland >>> Neptunes

Neptunes fell off. Hard. They have an INCREDIBLE run. But that’s all they had. A run.

Neptunes become predictable and formulatic. They hit a creative block and decided to chill and focus on N.E.R.D, rather than re-group and re-invent themselves as a production team.

Timbaland? He had 3 runs. The futuristic creative r and b stuff he did at the start with people aaliyah etc. then he re-invented himself and brought the arabic/indian sound to the mainstream, with songs like ‘get ur freak on’ and ‘big pimpin’. Him bringing that sound to pop influenced music so much that it allowed Scott Stroch to eat off that sound too (the difference was timbaland sampled but scott would re-play it on a motif synth)….If it wasn’t for Timbaland, there would have been no ‘baby boy’/’naughty girl’/’just a lil bit’/’lean back’/’candy shop’ tracks by scott stroch

And his most recent run, which cemented himself as the GOAT. With justin timberlake nelly futardo and his album shock value, he pretty much had a monopoly on music….he created this entire euro-pop trend that compromises 100% of the pop charts to this very day
Listen to the intricacy of the beat for My Love by Justin Timberlake. From the gated synth (which Tim introduced for the first time to modern pop music in that song)….then the choir, the piano stabs and theres even a high pitched vocal sample chop if u listen closely.

Yes, Timbaland utilized other producers to keep himself relevant and re-invent himself. Mainly Danjahandz, to Hannon Lane and Brain Kidd…
But that’s a skill in itself, know WHO to use and HOW to use them (II)….Knowing which sound to break and how to break it….knowing which artists to give the songs too….
And EVERY producer has a team under them. Dre had Storch. know he has Khalil…plus Neptunes were a DUO…

Highly demanded producers in Pop – Jim Jonsin, David Guetta, Dr Luke, Max Martin, Stargate

But Timbaland can still pick up the phone and work with anyone in the world, even if he takes 4 years off…He can come out and drop a Say Something, Dirt Off Your Shoulder, My Love at any given moment

Otis is overrated. Some of the beats on that album get a pass just because it’s Kanye and Jay. I’m not sure what the fuck people hear in a song like Niggas in Paris, and some others. But there are some stellar joints on it too.
    ———————————————-

Agreed, aside from the overrated part. The reviews haven’t been amazing and a lot of people have said they were disappointed.

  406. jderrida Says:

WTT place in history is up in the air. Is it one of the better albums of 2011? Yeah. Of Jay and Kanye catalog is it their best project? Nope. Top three? No way.

If I wasn’t already a card-carrying member of the Kanye Stan Club [sup Big Seth], I’d be rooting for the guy, anyway. No one tries as hard as he does.

Nah man people were raving about MBDTF.

I think WTT is around the same as BP3, probably a little better.

Agreed on Ross not being as good as Kanye or Jay, but I could see his album having better production than WTT. Ross has an ear for beats, and guys like Justice League, etc are no slouches.

That is the minimum they will give a project that has a lot of Kanye rapping on it.

I like Pitchfork better than most critics [who suck], but they definitely do have their favourites and Kanye is probably their #2 [#1 is Radiohead, easily].

I am completely convinced that people only hate Kanye because of his attitude and ego.

If dude never said shit then all the Eurotechno experiments, overproduction etc would be forgiven. People would see that, as an artist, people like to try shit and they also like to change.

It may not be my favorite kind of Kanye music, but his drive to make great music should be commended. I respect his artistic integrity (pause?)

that’s the only reason I ride for that blouse wearing, only child. LOL. He cares about the music.
