    Compared to???
    Wiz = Album Out
    Drake = Album Out
    Big Sean = Album Out

    If the generic white teen female cant say they’ve heard of you or you have an album of yours they can hold in your hand or hear a smash on the radio. Your not relevant. Maybe on the internet he is, but mainstream. Doubts it

  9. E aka Mac with the Cheese Says:

    Yea its a wrap for Cole, he’s not your generic rapper, talkin bout the club, makin it rain etc. His lyrics are based off life experiences. 3 Mixtapes content = 1 Album content

    I’m not talking about the lyrics or rhymes. That was just off of relevancy. I like his music and am anticipating that tape, but relevant to mainstream? J.Cole is not.
    Sad to say when you see come up the same time as Drake, sign to ROC Nation which is affliated with Jay-Z the biggest name in rap, with tons of connections and watching all that talent be squandered for FREE mixtapes. The potential and anticipation was there when he first entered the scene now its becoming a terrible joke.

  20. A Chick Says:

    Really Troyvul…tell me why you hatin’ son?

    J Cole is clearly talented and doesn’t rely of his affiliation with HOV to get hot (See: Drake/Wayne or Ye/Big Sean).

    So he doesn’t have a dumbed down song on the radio that allows the white teens to just barely acknowledge his existence (Wiz). And you consider that losing?

    And he’s already put out more MIXTAPES than anyone on ur list so he clearly got that work in terms of music. And he’s opening for RHI RHI! Where is Wiz and Sean? Or Wale or anyone else for that matter. Let me find out they are touring.

    So basically your full of shyt TROY.

    I dunno fam, the nigga that made “Black & Yellow” said that Jay told him he needed that record for Cole. I want Cole to win I just dont think the type of music he makes is winning on the mainstream level right now.

    Wiz – catchy hooks/melodies, light on content.

    Jermaine is the opposite of that.

    This.
    Roc Nation is in a crisis now tho. Way too many unestablished artists with crazy expectations. Wtf is a Rita Ora anyway?
    However it is worth noting that J.Cole can’t really make a black and yellow type track like Wiz can. So maybe the sessions with Stargate were just awkward and he was unable to deliver a hit. Cole just ain’t that type of artist. They should let him just be himself, he can alway re-coup album budget by touring since he has a wide fanbase.

    I never said dude wasnt talented or that I was hating, but why do you sign to a label? To garner sales, no? How many sales has he garned to date, zero! Only cause he doesnt have an album out.

    I compared him to those other dudes because by default for the rest of their careers they will be associated with each other.

    I’m not hating, because I like dude, but be real.

  39. Black Says:

    ^^^^^^^^^

    Thats all I’m saying, if you think the nigga is gonna do big #s based off anything he’s done to this point your mistaken. It’s almost like Jay E, as much love as he gets from hip hop heads do niggas really think he’s going to be a force in the mainstream.

    That said those types of artists can turn a nice profit as long as the label tempers its expectations and the artist doesnt alienate their core audience by switching their style up.

  40. Smooth Says:

    See now Ja Rule, thats a dude its safe to say “his career is over”…

    I think Jay and Cole are trying to meet in the middle and what resulted from that effort, is the bullshyt single he calls “workout.”

    I think Cole needs to stay in HIS lane and does what works for him. Mainstream acceptance doesn’t have to be the end all.

    Artists make more $$ touring than they do on album sales.

    Hell BEYONCE did 313k this week. WTF is that?

  44. Troyvul Says:

    Let me ask you a question, though. Would you have preferred Jay put out something that he knew wasn’t going to sell? If there isn’t a viable single, what do you expect Jay to do? You’re making remarks like the quintessential, irrational hip-hop fan. There has to be a strategy and it has to be somewhat executed. If after you’ve exhausted all avenues, you still don’t have a substantial buzz and a viable single, then you take the loss. But you don’t just put out an LP to pacify fans like you on a blog when it doesn’t economically make sense and you have investors to answer to.

    Nothing is moving over there George…nothing, their two major acts one proven time & time again that hes gonna be extremely tedious w/ releasing even one song…

    I don’t know what their plan Is but putting all the eggs in one basket w/ Cole hope he present the perfect single just seems silly to me…as record label gotta know what your artist is…is he a commercially viable superstar who gonna be all over the radio and be a breadwinner for the company or is he an artist whos gonna put well balanced music with a variety of topics but isn’t going to be able to consistently put out radio hits…Roc Nation should be to tell..its their job to recognize these thing…trying to fit a square block into a circle shape and doing nothing else until it fits is waste of time and energy
