I look at music like movies

Sometimes I’m in the mood to watch scarface (rawse/rae)

Sometimes in the mood to watch a documentary(illmatic/food and liquor)

But I sure as he’ll won’t watch a documentary if its boring

This shit is still entertainment after all
    ^^

    THIS.

and authenticity can make it more enjoyable sometimes (at least a base in some authenticity like BIG or the Wu shit) but I can listen to some fake shit.

I think that is why I like certain artists. artists that make a statement about something. when there is a point to the fake shit it still holds true. if that makes sense. Jay Z was making a point about the baller lifestyle on RD, that there is another side to it. That it takes a lot to get there, losing friends and hurting others.

I don’t even know what these niggas is. I can’t even pinpoint them. I just be like, “What are you, my nigga? What’s your story?” I don’t like rap that doesn’t have a story behind it.

Like, you was just working at K-Mart and started rapping or something like that? It’s the backspin behind shit. How can I get to know you as a person by listening to your music? And what am I getting? What experience are you bringing me outside of a nigga rapping about fucking some bitches and you being hot?
    ^^

He’s not putting everybody in a box.

I can breath underwater? Let’s go!” I was swimming with turtles, big ass eels, and stingrays and shit. Nigga, I was the black Jacques Cousteau that day, that’s for sure.

    Listen to his music.

Nigga never goes the soft route or bites his tongue.

    And why should he?

These rap niggas is actors & pussies & Gibbs is rolling with one of the few real niggas in the game (Jeezy was in them streets & he put the green light on Gucci).

    And he was speaking truth.

If Gangster shit was still popular like it was back in the 90’s, there’d be no Big Sean or Wale. At least not like we know them now.

Wale got with Ross and already you see the change stylistically.

He gave Ross his props as a rapper but he never condoned him being a liar.
You got niggas co-signing that shit he pulled like it’s ok & it’s not.

  68. 911 Says:

Vibe: So you’re just not feeling his music then? (Drake)
DMX: Yeah, I don’t like him. It ain’t nothing personal. I don’t like his stuff. He is talented. He has a little wordplay here and there, but when I see him and here him it’s like—‘Money, I’m not rockin with that.’

Vibe: Damn. Have you even been able to have a conversation with Jay after that? I remember when it happened.
DMX: I’ve not talked to him yet, since. But I had a show November 18th, before I got locked up–No November 12th I had the show. And somebody in the crown was like ‘What’s up with Jay-Z’ and I was like ‘Fuck Jay-Z’. And it ended up all over the place. So he called Swizz, Swizz called me, and he tells Swizz ‘Yoo, why your man dissin me? I was gonna do a song with him’—Coulda, woulda, shoulda. Fucking bullshit. I don’t wanna hear that shit. And like ‘Yo, can you just get him to say he ain’t mean it’—NO! I’m not saying that. What I did say is if he wanna talk to me, I’m man enough to let him know why it’s ‘Fuck You’, but it’s still ‘Fuck You’! That’s what it is. I’ll let you know why, I can do that. It ain’t like you gotta worry about me running up on you shooting you. It ain’t that serious. You don’t owe me nothing. But if you want an explanation as to why it’s ‘Fuck You’, I’ll be more than happy to tell you why.

    DMX > Messy Bibbs

  69. 911 Says:

So I guess you’re not really influenced by anything current in hip-hop?
Yeah. It’s like normally, when I’m in the streets, I don’t look at videos. I don’t go to concerts. Nas is the only person whose concert I been to. I don’t go to shows—I don’t want to be influenced by what someone else is doing. I don’t want to be influenced by anything that anyone is doing. I want to be influenced by the people.
