Elmatic will be his gift & curse, should have kept the allure of the project, however drop o.g. shit, or atleast have a producer revamp the same samples bring some newness instead of recreate w/ a live band. I think El is a superior MC but took a few steps backwards w/ this release.

The fact that El & Will Sessions tapped into the soul of Illmatic but updated it for today’s fans is what makes Elmatic so genius.

  26. rex hussla Says:

That whole Slum situation is sad man…Dilla stopped fucking with them, and Baatin was on heavy drugs that didn’t help with his mental health problems.

I saw Slum open for Phife dog during the Fantastic days, and Dilla wasn’t there. Homie’s health probably didn’t really help out the group’s touring and all that.

They had to add another MC, Elzhi is dope, but yeah the chemistry was never the same. They had moments, but it was never the same. I don’t even listen to the Slum material without Dilla, and I’m a Dilla stan. But T3 and Baatin had to try and keep the group together because Slum was a brand name and they could do a lot better as Slum Village rather than changing their name or going solo.

That Araabmuzik studio session with Alchemist and Slaughterhouse was amazing…Slaughterhouse should have held him hostage in that studio and made him finish off four or five of those beats for their album.

The confusion started verbally. I would be angry and lash out and go crazy. I was like: Do I got demons? I couldn’t control it. It was a learning experience. They said I have depression, schizophrenia with bipolar tendencies. It was bipolar when I was responding to 12 different impulses. I didn’t hurt nobody.

    ^

working closely with somebody like this is difficult…especially if they are partly responsible for your touring, recording, and appearance responsibilities. Shit is sad man, I don’t think that was easy for anybody involved.
