Video: GZA, RZA & ODB on Public Access TV Circa 1991

DAMN this is fucking ill to watch. J-Zone, who maintains a blog over at the ego trip website, recently dug up this incredibly rare footage of the GZA (then The Genius), The RZA (then Prince Rakeem) and ODB (Ason Unique) on a public access show called Rhythm & Soul promoting GZA’s first, pre-36 Chambers LP Words From The Genius. Everything about this clip is epic from the host’s hair-do, to GZA’s acid wash denim suit to ODB repping as the dancer of the crew. At the end Genius spits an a capella freestyle with ODB on the beatbox.

Props: J-Zone

De La Soul’s debut album, 3 Feet High and Rising has been inducted in the Library of Congress as the fourth Hip Hop inductee. Their 1989 release now joins Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Public Enemy and last year’s honoree, Tupac Shakur. The selection is one of the 25 recordings over 10 years old that are declared “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
