    Haa …

  2. DC (District of Chase) Says:

Jay Electronica signed to Roc Nation… word… thats what’s up.

Meanwhile on the other side of town, I’ve begun to make my mark out here on the club scene. I gotta regular rotation spot at Lounge of 3 on U street and some other offers on the table that I have to negotiate.

I implore all of yall DC cats, come out to Lounge of 3 on my nights, you will not regret it. I had that motherfucker rocking on Friday night

  3. Beezy Says:

just know that the Black Gods mingled a bit
    Then the fingers got pricked
    Then the single got picked
Man I’m living out my brain I don’t dream about shit.

  4. Hopp Says:

” I had that motherfucker rocking on Friday night ”

    That’s whassup, chief.

  5. 456 Says:

But *shrugs* its business. Puff knows that. Diddy aint that man’s father lol

^diddy actin like a bitch. and jay elec peeped game, that’s all. you heard how he sounded on that christopher wallace record. and how diddy made his rant 19 minutes and sucked up all the energy on that joint. that gave jay a premonition of what it would be like with diddy. you always be number 2. gettin access to the wealth of talent orbiting jay and kanye….tony tago large up yaself

  6. The Shot Clock Says:

Given JE’s age and and status in the game He has a lot more to lose and is doesn’t possess the talents that Kanye has.

Kanye lost money for what he did. If you’re going to be that bold then you really need to stand behind what you say and not apologize. JE could say anything he wants but he has to remember he’s on a label.

    ^

yes i agree Ye fucked up by not standing behind his convictions, he wants so badly to be liked but thats his own cross to bear.

sure JE could be mindful, bite his tongue to get ahead.

but my point is that when we look back on most of the truly great artists, or great anything for that matter, they broke the mold, they pissed a lot of people off, and they changed culture and the minds of millions.

i aint saying JE is gonna do any of that. but what i’m saying is that i think his approach is part of that lineage. he’s doing him, the way he wants, at his own pace. and it’s not ignorant, it’s real. i think theres niggas that talk reckless out of ignrance…my impression is that JE does it in an attempt to keep shit real in an industry where evryone and they mommma is tap dancing fakes.

  7. Beezy Says:

I don’t know about signing with Jay though.

Who has signed with Jay-Z and actually experienced any success?

  8. cOLD Says:

It would be these jews, who try to disrupt the continuity of the gods.

  9. RIGZ Says:

you heard how he sounded on that christopher wallace record. and how diddy made his rant 19 minutes and sucked up all the energy on that joint.

Nah, I thought that shit worked (just over worked a lil bit)

Puff has that brashness & arrogance that Elec dont have…It wouldnt hurt him injecting it into a few songs via adlibs a la BIG

Them two would be like Ying & Yang I believe

  10. 456 Says:

Who has signed with Jay-Z and actually experienced any success?

    ^kanye, cam, rihanna, neyo, beans…

^It woulda been perfect if it was a 1 minute rant that faded out or some shit, but dude left the whole shit in. puffy’s golden ear turns tin when it comes to himself.

  12. netherlands Says:

The only people who has complained about Jay were broke philly rappers that lacked fathers who felt they were entitled for something that they didn’t need to work for.

Cam and Jim were disrespectful employees trying to takeover the label. Dame. There has been no credible arguments or complaints about Jay-z of anyone that was an artist or was an ex hustler.

  13. netherlands Says:

Oh and Joe Budden complained, but that’s because the type of music he was putting out was trash and wasn’t getting the push. LL Cool J complained because he felt that he was still hot, but really he had no buzz. DMX was jealous and on crack.

  14. RIGZ Says:

It woulda been perfect if it was a 1 minute rant that faded out or some shit, but dude left the whole shit in.

    ^^^

Im pretty damn sure that was more Elec’s doing than Puff’s. Puff came and said his piece, Jay was sitting on the song. He couldve easily edited it if he wanted. Takes less than 10 secs.

Elec loved that shit, be clear lol

  15. RIGZ Says:

SMH @ me actually listening to that snippet of the Elec & Jigga song. SMH.

Nice sample though. Same shit as “I Gotta Love” off The Main Ingredient.

  42. DC (District of Chase) Says:

    Ne-Yo, I know nothing about.

    ^*shrug

^Ne-yo was a song writer and a very successful one at that. he wrote a handful of Usher’s hits on Confessions. and wrote several other songs. But as an artist, he didn’t pop until Jay was in charge of the label, but honestly, he would have popped regardless to who was running the label

  43. Beezy Says:

either way … Jay is definitely not a good steward of anyone’s careers.

The people who succeeded with him, did so on their own merits.

Look at J. Cole … that nigga in rap purgatory.

Not even a whiff of an album dropping in the near future.

You asked who has jay-z signed that has had success. People have given you names with actual evidence of who had signed and has had success, and the only person you bring up is a new artist that hasn’t put out an album yet.

Why is it Jay’s Job to sign and develop talent his job is to bring already buzzing artist to his label. He’s not an artist developer. The people who he signed are SUPPOSE to succeed on their own merits and not ride his coat tails.

kanye went with jay when jay and dame split. and went on to greater success. ne-yo got more success under jay’s tenure. j. cole has as much exposure as is possible for a rapper of his style and limitations. beans was caking under the roc. then he decided to do drugs and commit crimes.

No-one mentions that Elec was busy galavanting with Puff before and when the Exhibits dropped..no1 had a problem then

^ This is kinda off-base. The same way Puff showed up for Wiz Khalifa’s show in L.A. recently is exactly what he did with Jay Electronica. What was he supposed to say? “Nah Puff, you gotta get off stage” J’Elec has respect for Puff’s legacy and contribution to the game so he probably was caught in the moment that Puff would actually be on stage with an artist like J’Elec. How do you tell Puff, “yo, them adlibs fucked up my song?” Like, really? This man has the power to blackball you for LIFE. So I imagine he just took it in stride and kept it pushin’. Then with the current dickriding of Rawse, Nicki, and Wiz he probably took it as a sign that aligning himself with Puff for any business venture is not a good idea. Puff caught the shaft and rightfully so. He been giving it to niggas for years… figuratively and literally.

And FTR, Shakir Stewart signed Jeezy and Rawse, NOT Jay. Rawse was actually “discovered” by Bleek when he was Miami helpin’ out his brother after that bike accident. Passed the songs along and the rest is history.

    ^^^

You know you gonna have to leave DC to make it happen right?

  103. Hopp Says:

” To each their own, clearly ”

Basically why I stopped at “Nah.”

‘Course I’ve heard better, but I still don’t see “god-awful.”

  104. Cypher Says:

I hope Cole gets some guidance from jay ( elec or camel) for his album…

If he woulda made that ” all I want is you ” his single” he have an album dropping.

I’ve realized that it’s nit that Cole gas one flow it’s that he doesn’t have a good ear for hooks.

Example if he had Drake sing the chorus for ” in the morning” he’d have a hit on his hands

  105. mcb Says:

ok so i gotta do this nh
    *hands in photocopied late pass*

Jay Elec on Roc, any news of a ana ctual release (nh)

J COle, how was that mixtape? i kinda wanna d/l at work….

that Kweli, Ye, Con song is def worth a listen obviously, anything else i miss over the weekend…

cosign. and has anyone heard the original In The Morning. cole rapped the same first verse, i had it on this mixtape called A Nigga From the Ville. when i heard drake was on this song i was like dam some old shit…but i mean the third verse is different and drake is on it but cole’s third verse smashed the whole song

  107. Free J Says:

    lol agreed

  108. Hopp Says:

” I’ve realized that it’s nit that Cole gas one flow it’s that he doesn’t have a good ear for hooks. ”

    My take on it :

Granted, hook was the first big problem I’ve had wit’ Cole, but only after Who Dat, the tracks have gotten progressively worse on the hook tip IMO, but I think it’s positive to see him try and come up wit’ a good track all on his own. [verses + hook + production]

‘Cause, eventually, he’ll come up wit’ some pretty good hook, like on Farewell [or pre-hook, in Too Deep For The Intro’s case.]

Jus’ as, eventually, he’ll come up wit’ some killer beat like Premeditated Murder. [even tho the hook on this one is terrible …]

  109. DC (District of Chase) Says:

You know you gonna have to leave DC to make it happen right?

^Nah, not really. I’m not trying to make this a career, although i wouldn’t mind getting paid as if it were.

But even if I have to, I’m from NY, and still have club connects out there, if ever I wanted to take it that route. But DC has a nice network of clubs and owners that I can do my thing with

  110. Cypher Says:

And to be clear when I say ear I mean voice in most cases… His voice doesn’t have enough variety to cover every hook.. Which makes listening to his songs one after another sound boring

  111. Hopp Says:

” His voice doesn’t have enough variety to cover every hook.. Which makes listening to his songs one after another sound boring ”

    This.

    Crazy talk. That beat KNOCKS.

  114. DC (District of Chase) Says:

Ansd for those who haven’t yet. Watch that Master of the Mix show. That shit is popping.

My only gripe about it though, artists and labels are too damn greedy. The show isn’t allowed to play certain mixes and segments because artists/label didn’t or won’t clear the use of the song without compensation… smh

  115. Charles Oakley Says:

I need a Jay-Z, Jay Electronica, Kanye & Mos Def track co-produced by Kanye, Just & No ID.

This is actually possible. But, knowing Kanye, he will also have Chyi the Prince on it and Consequence.

    ^
true… Sometimes I get the feeling that Cole keeps striking out with the bases loaded, and if he don’t start hitting home runs he’s gonna get sent back to the minor leagues…

Then again maybe that’s what he needs.. Some of the biggest stars become that after they have time to work it out at a lower level

  120. Mr.Londoner Says:

Clearly kanye did his verse to a different beat, but wanted Q-Tip on the album to get the whole hip-hop legendary producer shit.. Q-Tip was told last minute and made that beat.

the chorus sounds is so off beat.

Oh and Joe Budden complained, but that’s because the type of music he was putting out was trash and wasn’t getting the push.
    ______________________________________________
Hey, watch your mouth about Budden. He’s that nigga! He experienced no success on Def Jam cuz Jay REALLY didn’t like him.

Rejected Budden’s Pump it Up remix proposal only to jump on the track and send all sort of crazy subliminals.
