Video: Sadat X Talks About The Crack Era

So every Friday, Gasface is dropping these thisismyNYMinute supplements to their New York Minute mini-series. Last week it was Buckshot breaking down the end of Evil Dee’s rap career, and this week Sadat X regales us with tales from the days when crack cocaine ruled the streets of NYC (“yo when crack first came out? that was the greatest thing ever!”). He also speaks on Boy George, a hustler from the Bronx (Cormega name-checked him on “Glory Days”) who let Calvin Klein shoot a perfume commercial at his crib.

    I think I will try it the same way as I have done before placing the weed and butter in a seperate container and boiling it. But previous times i have only boiled for about 2 hours where as on most of these youtube videos, these guys say at least 3-4 hours.

    nah its not that messy, some just gets on your hands, (pause).

    yeah everyone has different methods/times. some say 30 min, some say 3 hours, some say 24. just do what works for you. the importance is not burning the thc out of the weed obviously,

    i imagine at some point theres not much difference in the THC getting released (nhjic). id say 2 hours is plenty. but if u got nothing else goin on, go for 2.5-3 i guess.

    Crack cocaine, often nicknamed “crack” after the sound made during its manufacture and when smoked, appeared primarily in impoverished inner-city neighborhoods in New York, Los Angeles, and Miami in late 1984 and 1985.[5]

    Ok Ice your point is its logical that cops let him go with 3 days worth of hustling crack cocaine on him, 60 hours straight of him grinding at the boom of the crack epidemic. Blocks were making tens to hundreds of thousands in a day… Math says that with that much huslting Jay had to have atleast 5 thousand worth of crack, we know it wasn’t a punk clip that took him 3 days to get off. So how much yay would you say the let him off with, just walk away at a school zone?

    Listen Cold read the story again

    * His First Arrest
    Jay-Z’s first arrest came at age 16. He was dealing in Trenton, because his friend “Hill” had a supplier there. Hill had enrolled in the local high school, and one day when Jay-Z went to meet him, he got caught with crack in his pockets on the campus. Since he had no prior arrests, the police let him go, but they confiscated his supply. In order to make up the cash to the supplier, Jay-Z had to go back to Marcy and deal crack 60 hours straight — three days in a row, he writes. He kept awake by “eating cookies and writing rhymes on the back of brown paper bags.”

    They took the crack from him and he was in Trenton, NJ, so the cops took all his work, so he had to leave trenton go to nyc get more work, make enough to pay off that work he just got AND make enough to give back the dealer in trenton. Thats why at took 3 days. I think thats what he is saying in the story. Jesus man

    ive seen people get caught with alota shit and let go because the amount of paperwork and court bs that comes along with it is just too much. some cops are lazy. others dont wana go thru the trouble for a lil bit. unless they catch a major haul they just take it and tell u to f off. especially if u a first time offender. and bein 16 its even easier to get off.

    ^ this is the biggest misconception placed on cops… These niggas are ego driven pigs, in it for the stripes and recognition… The reality is that cops “plant” shit on niggas, not let the walk off with having found an ounce of raw.

    If you’re a New Yorker that grew up in that era,then you KNOW that what Sadat is saying is all true shit. And no..he said it was the greatest shit because it enabled young niggas who had nothing to have money.Buy a brand new car off the lot fully kitted out in a day money,so yeah,it was the greatest thing ever(and also one of THE WORST)..and to top it off,if you got caught,the cops did not have a fucking clue.Most times,they’d just take ya shit and let you walk off or just give you ya shit back.

    Older heads back then said that the cops gave it back because letting that shit run wild in the ghetto WAS THE PLAN the whole time. It didn’t become criminal until it started showing up in white neighborhoods…true shit!

    ^
    you dont earn stripes by making small busts, u earn em by haulin in the major players. the amount of time and work it woulda taken to take a 16 year old kid to juvenile and process him and the paperwork only to have him walk out a few days later isnt worth it to some cops.
