Jay-Z Interview w/ DJ Semtex (11/5/10)

Hov reflects on the ’90s & early ’00s, remarks on the “producer day” trend, being surprised that MC Hammer took it the wrong way (“I said some really nice things about him in the book… he’s gonna be embarrassed,”) the balance between free vs. paid music, says that Watch The Throne no longer includes the previously-released G.O.O.D. Friday records and is now a full-length album, and more.

It’s like one of those Blueprint, College Dropout, change-the-face-of-music type good.

Shouts to Semtex.

    ^^^

Easier said than done. They got T.I. on the thinnest case I’ve ever heard, besides Wayne’s original charges that is.
    ^^^

Nah, ti fucked up. Every nigga know when u on probation u cant ride with shit or do shit. Thats whats so shocking with t.i cause he supposed to be a street nigga and any street nigga will let u know when he on papers and tell u to get all that bullshit away from him.

When u on probation u dont have to be found guilty, just ur p.o think u fucked up and ur ass off to jail. Thats why is good to kiss your probation officer ass and call them mutha fuckas when ever they call u or need sumthin…When u on probation ur p.o is ur new god

    ^

not to intrude LMAO but usually your best bet for a design file is PDF because almost every person at least has Acrobat on their computer, or if it’s just a pic save it as a jpeg or gif.

And Van Dro…you don’t have to spend $800 on Photoshop…you can get the entire brand new Adobe Creative Suite for $300 (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, they even have music editing, etc etc etc) with a student ID. It doesn’t even need to be yours. Ask a friend or a cousin…they don’t even check to see if it’s yours or not. Trust me I’ve done it a couple times.

Trackmasters & Puff did a commercial spin on what Ski had been doing on an underground level. Everybody was sampling but Ski made the chopping & sequencing on his records standout.

Of course, but thats EVERY Cam album, ever. That nigga stay too high to know a good idea from a bad one. I’m just saying that the good on SDE outweighs the good on CoF:

    CoF-

Glory, Death, 357, D’Rugs, Confessions, Horse and Carriage… I mean, after that, the album becomes an attempt to cross over, with terrible results (Feels Good, Pimps a Pimp) or just flat out bad song ideas (Shanghai, Fuck You, Me and My Boo, Me My Moms and Jimmy)

    SDE-

Losing Weight, Where I’m From, Let Me Know, That’s Me, SDE, Violence, My Hood, What Means The World… Cam biggest problems was that his weed carriers started getting access to the mic on SDE.

He didn’t really innovate anything, though. This thread just discussed everyone who influenced Kanyes productions style, or even who’s style he directly copied.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I have a sneaky feeling this Jihad nigga dislikes Kanye cuz his hubby (Fiddy Cent) lost that retarded Graduation/ Curtis battle.

    He didn’t innovate anything?
    Really Jihad?

Who was talking about superficiality and the negative consequences of materialism before Kanye? I’ll wait.

Who made the chipmunk soul sound a COMMERCIALLY VIABLE PRODUCT b4 Ye? Still waiting wait.

Who directly criticized radio for making religion a no-go area in hip hop? Take a lucky guess.

In fact, for the sake of argument, it is actually 50 cent who hasn’t provided innovation in any way, shape or form. Think about it.

Is 50 Cent a particularly good rapper? Not really. His wordplay, punchlines metaphors, vocab level and imagery he creates are often overly simplistic. Was GRODT groundbreaking? Nope (its a classic though).

Is 50 a better rapper than Ye?

RG: When I was in college, I made $3K selling weed (also smoked another $3K) Simple — but fundamental — question: how much has Jay-Z made selling drugs by your accounts?

ZOMG: Well, he says he came into the rap game “100 grand strong, nine to be exact” in “U Don’t Know”. So it seems like he’s saying $900,000, and I take him at his word on that.

I’ve realized that his lyrics are actually pretty honest if you listen carefully. In the mid 1990s, cocaine was selling for about $40k per kilo (which makes sense: “I could make 40 off a brick, but one rhyme could beat that”), and my sources told me Jay was moving a kilo a week. Really it depends on his acquisition costs. If he’s “paying LeBron” ($23k), that’s a fat $17k profit per month, or about $200k per year. So from 1990-1995, his peak dealing years, that translates to about $900,000, like he says. Of course, if he was actually paying Dwyane Wade ($3k), that’s a different story…

Being realistic the only problem gonna be Pusha. Yeah Cyhi got bars but he’s not interesting to listen too.

    And Big Sean…um…yeah

The fact that an artist as big as Kanye is collaborating on a new (free) track every week is kinda special, especially considering the high level of product he’s put out so far.

I give u props for saying it, and obviously agree…but it’s sad that it even needs to be stated for some to understand…but there’s always gonna be haters, that’s a given. I think Kanye’s greatest quality tho is how original everything he does is….It’s opened up the lane for so many other types of artists and closed the door on the way a lot looked at RAP101 and how it “should be.” ——From the album artwork to the fake ass wannabee 808&heartbreak artists, kanye swag stays getting swiped.

not in the industry either, but if it’s filled with the types of ppl i think it’s filled with, it makes sense….even LA Reid has been rumored to only looking for a certain “type” of artist….im sure there’s some fabrications on kanye’s “last call” storytelling, but I’ve never heard any of it really refuted. of course, not like anyone would speak up on that if they were passin on him. i still crack up over the chick sound byte “yall niggas stupid for passin up on kanye” and he’s like…”i aint gonna say nuthin to mess up my promotion” haha
