Rey… Seriously.. just be quiet. Don’t you LIVE in NY??? I shouldn’t even have to explain to you the type of buzz 50 had BEFORE he got signed. Yea, the Em/Dre cosign was huge, but it wouldn’t have mattered WHERE he signed. His music was already huge. As far as beats, he had, what? 3 Dre beats on his project? The rest were no-name producers…

You can’t possibly be serious. 50′s music blew of the strength of his hooks, the mystique surrounding him (drug dealer, shot, etc), and the buzz he created off the mixtape circuit. Em and Dre were the proverbial icing on the cake…

    JihaD

    ^^^

The mainstream audience 50 needed to be as big as he was was NOT checking for that gun shit back then, man. He needed Em & Dre. Do you remember hip-hop in ’02? Mainstream, commercial hip-hop? They were NOT checking for that.

That buzz means what to the suburban kids rockin’ out to Hot In Herre and Without Me? Anything? Them kids is the ones that bought all them albums after their cult leader Eminem told ’em it was okay, that made 50 an icon––those aggressive content lovin’ rebellion-via-blackface honkeys.

He goes plat, maybe double, but that’s it. And you gotta be fuckin’ kiddin’ me with those 3 dre beats.. Those were the fuckin’ SINGLES! In Da Club, 21 Questions… Sheeit…

Not Checking for “gun shit?” In 2002??? Rey, what world do you live in?? They were ABSOLUTELY checking for “gun shit” back in 2002. He didn’t NEED Em and Dre, lets stop fronting. Em and Dre’s co-sign MADE him bigger, but it also made THEM look genius.

And that same “buzz” your talking about had them “suburbian white kids” going crazy, thinking they gangster and rapping that niggas songs word for word. Tell me they weren’t playing Wanksta in the burbs, and I’ll call your mother a hoar in front of your father.

As far as songs, Dre produced In Da Club (prod for D12), Heat, Backdown (both Heat and Backdown were originally for Rakim) and If I Can’t… 50’s first singles were In da Club, Many Men, 21 Questions, PIMP… Get your facts straight.

First off, his buzz had shifted at the point. I was in ATL in college from 199-2004 and had both 50 Cent is The Future and God’s Plan (DIplomats Vol. 1 too) and was blown away by the music.. The niggas STAYED in the A performing too, straight mixtape songs..

But nah, my point was that this nigga had already built his buzz to the point that people wanted to see what his next move was. Not saying 50 didn’t benefit greatly from signing with Em and Dre, but if he can’t write “In Da Club,” 50 Cent becomes Joe Beast, Brooklyn, or the Game (among others) over at Aftermath, and that is FACT. Honestly, there’s no way to determine this. In Da Club was catchy, but over a sped up soul beat or a manny fresh bounce beat, would it have resonated the same? I don’t think so.

My opinion is that Fif goes 1x platinum, 2x at the most, but then that’s it. And the fucked up part is that he might be more respected if it happened that way. The same audience and mentality he helped usher in turned their back on him quick because he wasn’t new and fresh, and he played himself out beefing with everyone.
