i think J.Cole is still trying to find his own lane. I’m sure it’s hard to be sonned by somebody as influencial as Jay and not be a clone.

“Ras Kass – I Am Legend”

Can you really be a legend when you were only good from August 1997 to October 1997?

And BTW, if we want to compare Drake and Cole to other rappers:

Drake = the 50 Cent of the sensitive-sort-of-intellectual rap. He’s very watered down, but was great on mixtapes, and hit big quick by singing hooks, not rapping. Will branch out further and face a backlash.

Cole: Kanye West. Learning under No ID, getting better. Very good if plain lyricist that could get big if his beats and song concepts improve. Fave album is College Dropout FFS.

Drake borrows much of his style from Graduation/guest verse Kanye. Empty sort of wack punchlines, complaining about being awesome, crying, etc.

  5. foekist Says:

Ras Kass needs to throw the mic over the powerline. ‘Spect due and alladay, and he’s one of the best lyrically of all time from the left coast, but… nah son. I guess he could get some underground-type local bar show money here and there, but “dat about it” -camel

    i’ll assume that i’m preggers with this, but . . . .

TefDon is disgusting all the way through.

i kinda agree with this…not so much the 50 comparison, Drake is a way more talented artist than 50. When a nigga can write a song like “Unthinkable” for A. Keys…u cant put him in the 50 category

  15. Mr. Iceberg slim Says:

That j cole song is d@mn good, i think the hook of him singing, is just a reference for who ever will sing the hook, i mean u can tell the song is not even mastered…but dude is nice….

Word. Listening to it now. Nice.

He’s much better than 50, but TML is to sensitive/expressive rapping, what GRODT or Massacre are to aggressive/gangsta rap. Great pop albums from start to finish, but watered down as far as content and rapping. Popular with chicks and kids because the hooks are nice.

But I agree he’s much better than 50. So Far Gone is better than any 50 mixtape/album I’ve heard, though that may just be my age talking, lol.

Yeah it’s your age, cause before 50 got all mainstream he dropped some fire mixtapes.. Also, check out Power of a Dollar
