Fashawn – Ode To Illmatic Artwork + Track List

fashawn-ode-to-illmatic

They re-used the Illmatic font for the cover and recreated the track list for the back cover, after the jump. The artwork is also an interpretation of Fash’s favorite line from Illmatic.

Fashawn will be releasing his Ode To Illmatic this Friday on XXLMag.

Thank Me Later is my favorite album right now… funny how things played out

    ^^^^^^^^^^
you will eat these words within 2 months i promise you. I was secretly hopin that Thank Me Later would be the truth, but it aint. He’s good at wat he does, very good at that, but lets be real……..dat boy sing too much 2 be the truth. Hip hop has its violent/aggressive/negative side, and its positive/reflective/civilized side, but that nigga Drake is the most anti-street, anti-thug, anti-rebellious artists EVER in rap. No hate, but for a 80’s baby who’s been brainwashed by 90’s hip hop such as myself, he just dont’ do it 4 me (II). Even slum village and common can spit somethin from a street perspective, and thats the 1 thing Drake can’t do. He cant give you raw street energy on a record and thats cuz he’s half female (no shots but we know its true). All that bein said, i liked the album somewhat but just not my flavor. He def aint the next “One” like i was led 2 believe. Sorry bout the 4 page letter but thats my final verdict on dude.

he got shit about him worth criticizing, but i dont think singing him singing is a problem…

Eminem has been passed by many. Kind of. You can say everyone passed raekwon before he put out OB4QL2. If relapse had good beats and less gay rape fantasies that shit would be crazy. Eminems lyrics are still there, for the most part, his ear for music is just falling off terribly. Either that or Proof was the dude in his corner that told him when shit was wack. Think of how many people had to shut up and not tell eminem some of this shit was a terrible look, that’s wild in and of itself.

I don’t get how grown people still don’t get the concept of ‘relating’ to music. Granted some shit is so alien to your daily thought process, that material might not relate. But how much shit can you really relate to if your just going by experiences. I can’t relate to a god damn thing Jay-z or Nas experiences on a day to day basis. I couldn’t relate to the experiences of tupac when I was in 6th grade, and I can’t relate to the experiences of luther vandross if he was singing about dudes.

But motherfuckers are human beings, and you can relate to how they respond to the circumstances they’re in and how they feel about shit or analyze it.

As for eminem, I can’t relate to murder fantasies and fucking the elephant mans scull @ michael jacksons crib, but I love rap and can nod my head and appreciate great lyrics when I hear them.
