  6. Cashmere Cavalli aka Snowbunny Sampson Says:

drake sounds like he’s whining in his verses on these tracks tho….like his cadence wasn’t this high pitched before

but his verses on paper look dope

  7. Instru-mental Says:

Drake selling A Milli, giving hip hop a good look. Thank him now nahggas, we need new artists to keep the torch going, even if they are of a different mold.

  17. 40 Inc Says:

damn that fuckin Unforgettable is fire. I wonder why ppl hate drake so much. Is it the fact that hes so vunerable? I mean i know hip hop is about being tough and shit but when a rapper lets his guard down lets you into his world of bad relationships and fear of success ppl get all up tight like “nah son Drake is for bitches” why? cause he expresses feelings? it takes alot for a rapper to let his walls down. I apperciate it Drake. cant wait for the album

    Thanx Me later

  18. Cashmere Cavalli aka Snowbunny Sampson Says:

Can’t speak for others, but I jus’ don’t like the music. He can run from titties (nah, he can … never mind that part), get his money, I ain’t hating on him spefically … I jus’ don’t like the music. And also don’t like it when someone comes to me saying that he’s the best rapper alive or when I see Billboard portraying him as “The new face of Hip Hop” …

    But nothin’ against the kid.

i know exactly what you mean. oh and for the record, find your love is still the best song he’s put out from the album simply because his singing joints are honestly better than his rap stuff…..plus that beat is piff.

  31. leonard Washington aka The Silky Johnson of nahright Says:

i fucked up i listen to the dear god joint first then i listened to the drizzy joint which sounded trash by comparison….right now spitta has way hotter shit, so does wiz, and dom kennedy’s from the westside with love is a far superior product to drake’s catalog…smh…the 9am “freestyle” has been that dudes best shit since…sfg. in my opinion

I’d listen to the tracks that he’s produced for Drake and Ross as some kind of clue. Find Your Love and Live Fast, Die Young [not out yet].

So far it sounds like it’ll be a more modern, polished version of the old school sample based early-90s version. Toomp doesn’t really change that, since he’s capable of that kind of thing [Say Hello on American Gangster].

Did you hear his freestyle at the Cudi show that was posted here a few months back?

Also he said something about returning to some old school poetic shit, so look for better lyrics than were on Graduation and 808s.

I just hope he and his usual collaborators on the production side [Jeff Bhaskr, Jon Brion, Plain Pat, etc] come up with some new element to add to the beats. A straight retro sounding record [even if the beats are all 5 star stuff] would be a let down for a guy who’s known for coming up with a unique sound for each LP.

I see what you’re sayin’. It’s true, it’ll be interesting to watch what he can come up with. But I bet you one thing :

Taylor Swift is in that album somewhere. Her name will be used. Even if he’s apologizing somewhere … But you’ll hear that.

  61. RNC Chairman Michael Steele Says:

@ Hopp: You might be right, and I hope so frankly. At the same time he is capable of fitting in with guys like Pete Rock, Q-Tip, and Primo as far as sampling goes [not as good as those guys, but might make a banger]. Time will tell.

@ Cypher: True, he does save his best stuff for himself. That said hand me downs are a clue as to what kind of music he is making at the time. Guys like Drake, Ross, Common, and Jay may get less effort than the beats on his own stuff, but he’s still giving them close to his best material- in hopes of being involved with another classic. Someone like Cudi or Big Sean or Consequence will get his other stuff.

The Warm Up and So Far Gone are both great. It’s just that I can listen to SFG whenever, not so much for The Warm Up. Both guys can write great SONGS, and made their mixtapes sound like albums. Drake already had his own [Ye influenced] sound on SFG, though.

    =========================

Not because of todays standards dropping. Nobody will say kid cudis album was a classic..even tho its significantly better than most of the other albums that have come out recently.
The music on TML is of an extremely high standard compared to any music that has dropped in hiphop in the past 10 years. I agree alot of the lyrics have been sub-par, TML cnt hold any wieght lyrically against Kanye or 50 Cents debuts..but musically it can.
All of this is assuming there won’t be any filler (judging by the tracklist, there shouldnt be).

They should only leak one more track – probably the Timbaland one.

  127. Hopp Says:

    thanks Hopp

    ^^

    No problem, sir.

  128. Smooth Says:

But they should make sure the other Kanye track and the Jay collab do NOT leak.

Damn. You’re right. Although the production style is still sounding like standard Boi-1da and 40 fare- just more celebratory than sparse reflective stuff a la SFG.

TML is gonna be a victory lap of an album, mood wise.

  135. RNC Chairman Michael Steele Says:

    *bows before the Red Elephant*

    *leaves*

    Peace.

  136. Smooth Says:

The main flaw with TML is that it lacks the killer 2nd single

Find Your Love is DOPE, but its not a 2nd single. its more of a 3rd or 4th single.

The second single of an album is usually the most important one in stimulating album sales, radio play and buzz…

Can you imagine what the buzz woulda been like for TML if the second single was Forever…

Miss Me is a hot album cut, but definately should not have been the 3rd single, especially considering the fact that Over underperformed and that Find Your love is single #2.

TML will still sell like crazy…but it could been so much more. If anything, Drakes buzz has kinda deflated a little since the release of Over

  137. Hopp Says:

    Peace, Michael.

    Salute.

  138. Smooth Says:

”Find Your Love/Miss Me” is nowhere close to being a ”Run This Town/Empire State of Mind”
so Drake kinda lost in that aspect

Also he kinda peaked musically already. We know what to expect, and he’s just recreating the same songs.

Shut it down is weaker than Sooner Than Later.
Miss Me is weaker than Money to Blow
    Over is weaker than Forever.
I guarantee you that the Timbo joint will be weaker than Say Something.

Overall, the sucess of this album really lies on the other Kanye joint and on the Jay collab. Considering who those two artists are, there is a high probability of success.
Either way, TML coulda been so much bigger.

  139. Hopp Says:

We know what to expect, and he’s just recreating the same songs.
