for all u stupid niccas who think drake isn’t gonna go multi-plat, bear in mind that SFG was released with like 6 songs it that had already been released, plus one bonus cut (that was already freely available too), AND THE SHIT SOLD OVER 450,000

so you’re telling me that TML – a real album that hasn’t leaked yet – is gonna sell less?
    ———————————————————

I can’t see anyone getting past this point to argue against Drake going multi-plat. Dude clearly has some dedicated fans who WANT to pay for his stuff.

This isn’t the same kind of hype Wale and as of recently, the Clipse had. Drake has fans who comment on MTV.com news articles…those kids pay.

It’s just really unlikely that most of the people who hate on dude actually hate the guy. Especially the ones who say he’s bad for the music. Dude clearly writes songs well even if his punchlines fall flat or his flow is wack, he can’t be any worse for hip hop than Young Jeezy or someone else. This isn’t directed at you, just an example of the flawed mentality that forces people who may like his stuff to keep quiet about it.

Kids are different nowadays. Everything ain’t gotta be hardcore. They openly listen to artists like Drake & Trey Songz and feel no shame or guilt.

True. Maybe it’s a different age group Slim is referring to. Kids my age don’t care at all. If anything being that dude who only listens to hard stuff is corny now. And for good reasons.

  16. Hopp Says:

    ^^

I understand that perfectly. In fact, if dude hadn’t included the word “everybody”, I’d probably co-sign it too … But I did hear Over, Shut It Down (is that the title ? not so sure), Find Your Love (again, not so sure) and Miss Me (still waiting for the final version to judge that one) and I’m not impressed … Don’t like any of it. And didn’t like Best I Ever Had (as some of y’all probably didn’t too).

So yeah, even though I am going to listen to the album with an open ear, pretty fucking good chance I won’t like it …

But let’s see. At least from what you’ve said, I think it’s safe to say you might agree that “everyone” is a lil bit too much …

Hey rappers, stop doing “freestyles” over others artists beats. Make your own fucking shit.

  21. mcb Says:

    I REPEAT
WHAT SLUM VILLAGE ALBUMS SHOULD I OBTAIN

  22. RNC Chairman Michael Steele Says:

@ Hopp: Yeah, “everyone” is too much- but it’s just hyperbole anyway. I don’t think he literally meant everyone.

And listen to So Far Gone, bro. It’s more cohesive conceptually than most rap albums of the past few years- he has corny bars but his songwriting is GREAT. He the rare new rapper that has a firm grip on songs over bars [J. Cole is another, but to a lesser extent IMO].

Most of the songs you listed I didn’t like either [BIEH was good, and Find Your Love had a dope beat]. So Far Gone has much better stuff and there are some out there ideas on that tape too.

  23. RNC Chairman Michael Steele Says:

Joell just needs to develop some personality. Punchlines are overrated. How many of them are impressive peices of writing when written down anyway? Rap is made to be listened to and if you sound like your reading your lines than you failed. Switch up your flow.

Lil Wayne saying “I doos it like it never been done/ so you can suck my dick with a elephant tongue” sounds funnier when you hear it than most of what I’ve heard from Joell. But of course it doesn’t read well.

  24. Hopp Says:

    ^^

Do you think there’ll be any of this cohesive songwriting on other songs off Thank Me Later or the pos-YM Drake just ain’t having that? Because that sounds promising. Like I said on the other thread, if he’s really that good, those solo tracks are a good chance for him to prove me that if he really use all this conceptual talent you say he has.

  25. DC (District of Chase) Says:

I’ll never understand why lyrically nice rappers like Joell don’t get that mainstream shine.

Son is dumb nice. I think he’s the hands down best rapper in Slaughterhouse, but for whatever reason, that will be the pinnacle of his career

  26. RNC Chairman Michael Steele Says:

Guys who do well rapping over other peoples beats are guys who can flow well. Da Drought 3 would have put me to sleep if Wayne didn’t have a killer delivery–then on repeat listens I enjoyed the punchlines and subject matter. I’ve never listened to a Joell song twice.

    ^^^
    Reason a) He’s hispanic
    Reason b) He’s fat
Reason c) His voice is annoying
Reason d) He doesn’t stand out and doesn’t bring anything new to the table

He’ll make some effort, but given that half of TML is out already, unless the other half is better than his stuff on SFG than TML will disappoint. And some of the unleaked stuff is the stuff with Jeezy and Swizz beats features, so now way those songs will be great conceptually. It’ll be an album with great hits that’s weaker than expected lyrically a la Graduation- so people will still love it.

But yeah SFG was pretty much his debut album in my books. Something more mixtape like from him would be Room For Improvement, or Comeback Season. So Far Gone is just songs about where he was at the time career and life wise, with some weird experiments that worked out for the most part.

So I’ll take your advice and listen to it and I’ll (probably) report back … But after I listen to Thank Me Later. I mean, it’s so close to the release date, I might as well …

    Appreciate the suggestion.

  33. SayyyWorddd Says:

Joell nice but dude NEEDS to chill with this freestyle over every beat shit.

I’d rather heard his vocals over original production, and I THINK he has that body every track mentality, which is good sometimes just not all the fucking time

  34. JMack Says:

I love Joell’s music. Dude is a MONSTER. But honestly dude, you can’t touch this beat. Sorry, nobody should touch this beat, J.Cole made the shit untouchable.

Much like Joey did to the unthinkable beat. He outspit Drake on his own shit before he even spit on it!

Seen this same faggot couple months ago at queens center mall I go ”’YAAAOW” this faggot turns around with the PALOMO face and kept it moving with his head low like niggas is gonna rush him in the mall0

Beamer Benz or Bentley had just came out so maybe he thought he was that nigga IDK..
