GOAT should be awarded to an artist who has excelled commercially, artistically, stylistically, along with having a powerful influence and inspire people to follow trends they start…

^it’s actually blacker than that. the GOAT represents the most modern technique of freedom for the latter day black man or woman. He embodies that spirit has been passed through all the great africans throughout history. hiphop doesnt just set trends, it demands freedom at all costs.

@ Ike– Not making that argument at all. Mathers isn’t on my GOAT list, and I wouldn’t expect anyone to actually think he’s GOAT material. I do think he’s a HOF’er and created his own lane, but GOAT? No. From my listening experiences tho’, he’s incredible at RHYMING, just taking words that sound the same and putting them together, sometimes one word, sometimes whole sentences. I look at it like math, like algebra, but I definitely acknowledge that that could just be how I approach it.

Fact is, I’m just as pissed at the crackers that abandoned the art form their 2nd year of college as I am at the fuckin’ idiot ass young kids that think that Drake has any skills. I can’t stand hip-hop being treated as disposable, which is partly why I DON’T ingest as much music as the majority of nahggers.. If I have to listen to 10 albums/mixtapes a month just to keep up, so much more of it will be unremarkable, disposable, just another project to plow my way thru.

I don’t know if that makes sense, but it’s what I’m thinking.

yeah its getting there right? The last couple verses i’ve heard from him are like that. That nigga is a genius tho he created a character, stepped into it and played it so effectively that when he says “Im rich off cocaine” it doesnt even make a blip on my bullshit radar anymore.

Mo Money Mo problems didnt change the game (for better or worse)?? The double time flow on Notorious Thugs (which no east coast rapper did before, and what every east coast rapper has done since), the first R.Kelly hook on a rap album, which in turn led to hundreds more? Final song as suicide note? West coast exagerrated “gangsta” persona spliced with East Coast lyricism?

Naw, you can’t say the same about BIG.

    ^^^

If KanYe West put out “The College Dropout” and “Late Registration” and fell off, you couldn’t deny how good those albums were and their impact. Same thing with BIG and Life After Death and Ready To Die…

That being said, that’s a helluva question, and my gut reaction is to say probably not. It took Jay-Z calling out NaS and forcing him to step his game up for him to recover from I Am and Nastradamus after Illmatic and It Was Written set him up.
