Video: Nas Talks Beat Selection

“Well I have a wish list sometimes or I have a dream list of who I would love to work with and wish they would want to get in the studio and do records or whatever,” Nas told BET.com. “Then I have my own ideas of being a producer. And what happens is a lot of time goes by with me being indecisive, so it winds up with me kind of like doing what I have to do really fast, because I played around for so long. Then, deadlines come.

However, don’t think for one second that the Queens lyricist doesn’t have his ear to the street. Nas knows exactly where the heat is. “But, you never know who has it, everyone’s got a lot of talent,” he shared. “You have Little Brother, you have Drumma Boy. There’s a lot of dudes I like right now. You have DJ Toomp… When I work again, there’s about three different people I been talking to specifically about really doing it, so we’ll figure it out.”

SOmebody needs to get on that beat at the end of the song.

  3. Beezy Says:

I like at the end too, the beat kinda switches up to something really dark…I’d love to hear Jay go over that for another min or two

  4. keemer Says:

a Nas x Phonte track on his next album is so necessary

saw this early in the AM.. doubt it will mount to anything, though

has to do with the use of apples dev tools and banning of cross-platform compilers like flash in the creation of iPhone OS Apps

Flurry, a company that has analytics tracking code on at least 1 app on 80% of iPhone and Android devices, has just released some incredibly interesting statistics. With that level of reach, the company is confident they can accurately estimate/report on unit sales of individual phone models. Want to see their estimate of Motorola Droidsales vs. Apple iPhone sales after each phone was on the market for 74 days?

That’s right – the Motorola Droid beats out the iPhone (first generation) by a hair. Pretty amazing accomplishment if you ask me. And as the Android army grows in numbers on a number of levels – carriers, manufacturers, form factors, etc… – the statistics will only get more impressive.

^True. I can see the argument…the way Apple supresses flash and a few other types of software is very similar to the way Microsoft supressed Netscape and other competitors in the 90s, which got them in hot water.

The difference being, the iPhone has < 10% market share, whereas Windows at the time had 95%.

Much more competition in the smart phone market – firms don’t like that apple doesn’t use flash they can easily go to the android OS.

^That is impressive, however, to Apple’s credit, the market for people buying smart phones has expanded greatly since the launch of the 1st Gen iPhone, so that number is deceptive.

  15. MC Donalds Says:

Nas talking about beat selection is sorta like Dre talking about the art of lyric construction… no shots, but that typically hasn’t been either’s forte

the Incredible actually does that. you can actually talk-to-text. you don’t even have to type anymore. and the shit works VERY well. bluetooth that shit to your car’s audio system and the shit is truly hands-free. amazing.

that beat selection explanation does nothing to sooth the fans. He’s basically admitting that he’s not providing the best possible product. smh

  19. unity Says:

People make a big deal about Nas’ beat selection but praise the lyrics of talentless artists!!!! Nas just say fuck it and do you!
