All personal shots aside, you can’t really defend 42% shooting over a career. 42% for a season is a bad year. A career?
    ^
this got lost in the shots being fired, but 42% is a very bad percentage. unless you’re shooting strictly threes, there is no real defense of this statistic.

when you factor in how many shots someone like iverson took his years in philly, or kobe in his lakers years w/o shaq, you’ll get % like that for a career.

But Iverson is 6th all time on the career ppg list avg 26ppg, so that right there proves he was a efficent scorer nonetheless.

considering how the NBA has tried to give offense players ever advantage possible (no hand checking, automatic foul calls when going through the lane) 45% aint that impressive…where the Jordan who had to play agianst the Joe Dumars and 90s Knicks of the world who would send you into the third row with no hesitation & have to worry about getting a foul nevertheless a flagrant foul….don’t understand how these players DON’T have 50 FG %’s

The mid range game is dead now, everyone wants to take the 3 instead of the 18 footer, definently one of the reason why players fg % are so low nowadays.

I don’t see how anyone can honestly say AI wasn’t a special talent. That’s why I don’t put too much stock in statistics cause at the end of day stats alone aren’t how a player’s career is defined.

  26. 911 Says:

One of the many reasons Jordan won 6 rings in that “era” was because there really was only a handful of hall of fame talent to go against. And those were the guys he’d eventually face, which is why the rivarly were more intense back then. The great players teams made the playoffs. Regardless of there team construction. I really do believe the talent of that era was overrated. Minus bird and magic who were on the decline, when his run started. Shit Jordan said it himself, something along the lines of him feeling cheated because he didn’t face them in their prime. I ain’t saying it wasn’t talented, just not as talented as revisionist historians would have you believe.

    ^^^^^^^^^^
John Starks and Iverson have the same # of championships…zero, but i’d rather have Starks on my team quite honestly. A.I is a better basketball player but his style of play makes it virtually impossible to a championship….

    1) hes a SG whos most likely is going to play the 1 (PG) most of the time cuz of his size (n)

    2) so in theory hes kinda blocking 2 positions….playing point guard and taking the 25-30 shots that belong to the 2 (SG)….

    3) he lead the league in steals, but that stat alone doesn’t validate you being a great defender

    4) lack any sort of leadership

    5) and his prime years of being a scoring machine were relatively brief.

November, you might be wrong on everything you just mentioned. Granted Iverson was a 2 in a 1’s body (pause) but place him on the right team and you have a title contender for multiple seasons (in his prime of course)

He wasn’t the best defender, but he wasn’t the worst

His leadership shouldn’t even be brought into question. He took matt geiger to the finals.

And his years of scoring wasn’t brief, he avg 26ppg with the nuggets, 28ppg with the sixers, the years after denver was short, he didn’t even play an entire season. You can have John, i’ll take iverson (n)
