The good thing about Game songs is that when he name drops a rapper much better than him, I’m reminded to listen to said rapper, and immediately turn off The Game. I never made it through Gangs in NY because he said something about Shook Ones, and I just listened to that instead.

Game’s been and always will be a commercial rapper. There’s NOTHING wrong with a discussion about him getting to that. I’ll bet HE also considers his success in terms of sales.

You’re overreacting. If you’d like to discuss the artistic merits of Game’s work go ahead and try to steer this discussion. You’ll have to find those merits, though.

cosign, personally i think the best song on that cd was One Night. the same reason game is hated is why he’s famous…for name dropping. he’s an ok rapper but his appeal is steadily declining over the years. i think its too late for him but 50 might still be commercially viable imo.

You made that comment in a post involving Game, right after a few comments about Games sales and how popular he should have been.

You’re timing’s off, then. When you find that very post where people on here are talking about Jay Electronica’s potential first week numbers on his album whenever it get’s released, your point will actually look like it makes sense.

If we’re dealing with guys like Game, expect sales to be discussed. If you see some underground, alternative rapper, I don’t see where sales is getting discussed a whole lot.

RNC your logic is flawed. I said fans are always talking about record sales in hiphop discussions. I know its hard to believe, but there was a time when fans didn’t give a fuck about first week numbers, The artists did. I said the Game’s freestyle was nice. I also said hiphop discussions always lead toward record sales nowadays. I didn’t even say it was a bad thing, or that you shouldn’t be discussing it. It is what it is.

Every discussion does not lead to being about sales. I don’t see too many discussion on alternative rappers being about sales. RIGHT NOW, no one cares what Talib Kweli’s next album will do commercially, same goes for someone like Jay Electronica.

I don’t see their posts turning into discussions on sales, and that was supposed to be your point. Clearly not ever discussion goes to sales.

Take it a step further. Sales don’t get discussed with rappers who don’t care about sales. They do for those that do.

There’s no need to complain about it.

And people DO pay attention to record sales of artists that don’t mention it in the music. Yep, like I said earlier they will mention it but only to express support for an artist they hope does well.

After that the discussion goes right back to the music. The only time a discussion ever gets to sales and stays there is when it’s an artist who really only has that [or once had that].

I’m sure people will mention first week sales on DR. Then they’ll go right back to talking about the songs.

You’re coming around to seeing my perspective.
