    Yeah, I see T.I. really ain’t gon’ be on this one …

  2. why? Says:

    Jimmy Iovine said two weeks ago that today would be the day that damn Dre song would be heard by the public. From Wikipedia –

    “The first single, titled “Under Pressure”, featuring Jay-Z and co-produced with Scott Storch, was confirmed by Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre during an interview at Fenway Park before the first MLB game of the season.[36][37] Dr. Dre stated that he would like Interscope to release the record within two weeks of the announcement.”

  5. SeniorCivilian Says:

    Dre: I am dangerously close to not giving a fuck about Detox. Drop the fucking single.

  6. Hopp Says:

    “Hopefully we’ll be releasing that in the next two weeks or so,” – Dr. Dre, on April 6th.

    And, coming from him, I bet he went with “or so” instead of “in the next two weeks”.

    He knows this is corny, that’s why he’s never really focused on his wealth.

    “I Get Money” was about the most he ever focused on his money bin.

    He needs to do an album of “Hustler’s Ambition” & “MVP” type songs.

    Neither Curtis nor BISD really went in depth on his past like he said they would and that’s what made songs like “MVP” really compelling.

    “Growing up I was confused by Momma kissing a girl…”

    BISD was overrated. It was a tired, contrived gangsta record. Brought nothing new to the gangsta aesthetic, and just like on Curtis, his hooks [sung and rapped] seemed forced. His bars were a bit better, but they still pale in comparison to other rappers.

    Yeah it would’ve been nice if he took the Jay route, but with his own flare. Think “I Get Money”, which was entertaining as hell. Aggressive, confrontational, defiant, and cocky. And it was about how paid he is and how he keeps finding new ways to get paid. Way better than his contrived cookie cutter gangsta songs.

    This. Dude had hooks, yes, but Dre’s beats and Marshall’s Top-Of-The-World cosign did ALL of the heavy lifting. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Man, I love being a turtle If he wasn’t on Shady-Aftermath, he’d have gone platinum and disappeared. 2002-2003 it was still easy to go platinum. “In The Club” was a good song, but on a different beat it wouldn’t do a quarter of what it did.

    BISD was overrated. It was a tired, contrived gangsta record. Brought nothing new to the gangsta aesthetic
    =====================================
    How many records really reinvent the Gangster Rap genre?

    As contrived as it may have seemed to some, it was still a really good New York gangster rap album.
    ————————————————————

    Not reinvent, put your own twist or style to it. Read Asparaghosts post, it pretty much describes what’s wrong with 50’s rap.

    Duder.. You’re way off base on this one. Em & Dre just came off The Eminem Show selling damn near diamond.. The 8 Mile soundtrack did 3 mil.. D-12’s album bombed because it only had one song–the 2nd single, “Fight Music” got pulled because of 9/11.. Eminem’s Cosign, Dr. Dre’s Cosign, the overall Shady Aftermath stock (remember: this was before Dre fucked around with detox dates, signing & dropping rakim, game’s nonsense, the dog days of the murder inc beef..) was the highest in rap (“only dudes moving units Em, Pimp Juice & us”) in late 02 going into 03..

    Dre & Em’s cosign meant everything to 50’s career.. Mixtapes are fun and all, but even at his height of power, Killa Cam “only” went platinum–which was Curtis’ non-Shady/Aftermath ceiling.

    Dre & Em’s cosign meant everything to 50’s career.
    =======================================
    More for the beats then anything else. Without Em’s contribution on the mic, GRODT is still a great album. Plus, half of it was done before he signed the Shady deal. He was gonna pop regardless and his story and his war with Ja were gonna elevate his profile no matter who he signed with.

    Speaking with Vibe.com, Toomp stated he has worked on four tracks for Kanye West’s latest album Good Ass Job, which he estimates will be ready by early next year. “We’re putting [together] a masterpiece, it’s crazy. It’s going to be another classic… [Kanye’s] rapping, he’s going real hard,” he said.

    While no details are set in stone, Toomp also revealed he’ll be working with Jay-Z in the near future for his twelfth studio album. “[Young] Guru reached out to me when I got to Hawaii. I’m ’bout to go back in with Jay real soon. After that [Blueprint 3 Tour], it’s almost like what else [is there for him] to do?”

    lol.. his “Can-i-bitch” song cracked me up.

    ^^^

    made canibus look like a fool. didnt even take Canibus seriously, straight slap in the face. and what black rappers had beef wit em until 50 popped up anyways? benzino(if u even consider him black) didnt start poppin off until after 50 blew up

    ^^^

    That’s the thing, with Dre’s cosign (and snoop’s and Xzibits and Missy’s), nobody really gave Em shit after he blew up. He went after pop stars because Dre only makes albums that have some beef to the promo process, but you can’t tell me that if MC Black Guy dissed Eminem 2 weeks after “My Name Is” dropped that he’d be all meek and shit.. Dude battled in shoot ’em up village Detroit against black rappers, why would he be shook if some industry rapper said shit about him?

  334. Windy City Villian Says:

    I know Ross is a favorite right now but i’m telling u realness adds something to a song. 50 shit started to get boring after GRODT. I remember my cousins from NY telling me that shit he was rapping about was how he really was at the time of the mixtapes. Beefing wit Preme and having money put on him. Now its like fam u live in a mansion in CT

    ^^^

    See the reason why he fell off so quick, was that it was never REALLY about the music with dude…like, the initial energy that caused 50 Mania wasn’t all the way about the music…it was about the back story, the image, all of that…the dvds of him walking around with guns talking about how he got shot 9 times and showing the bullet wounds in his cheek…that’s what the public bought into…from a strictly music standpoint, 50 was never much more than a fairly standard and generic NYC tough talk gangsta mixtape rapper…people always talk as if GRODT is some all time great classic that 50 was never able to recreate, but that’s not really the case…this wasn’t a Nas chasing the ghost of hip hop perfection in Illmatic situation…50’s music never really took a dip at all quality wise, save for a few blatant pop sellout records…he put out the same caliber of music…it was just all the extra shit he couldn’t recreate…after a while, generic gangsta rap tough talk gets boring…50 isn’t really that much of an actual artist where he could make that transition and adapt creatively…he kept putting out the same record over and over again and couldn’t understand why he was getting diminishing returns…and that’s why it’s over for him now. He’s in Nelly, Post Brass Knuckles Land…forced to tour 2500 capacity venues instead of arenas and stadiums, while giving the excuse that “He wants a more intimate show for his true fans”…50 just wasn’t built to have one of those decades spanning rap careers
