The thing is, do you really want to read a book on attaining power from 50 Cent NOW? When it’s become clear his strategies didn’t continue to work and he couldn’t think of anything new to do.

And it’s co-writer is some dude who is known for these books, but not for actually being powerful.

I only read the summary, so I guess I’m not really in a position to doubt the contents.

But it is a book that necessarily has contradictory rules, meaning you need to know when to use which rule and when not to. And 50 Cent isn’t the poster boy for Machiavellian tactics anymore, since he’s apparently faltered as far as maintaining power goes. He only knew how to get it.

Harlem World had a great blog entry on 50 vs Jay and their strategies in this regard. At this point a book like this with Jay’s name on it would be actually credible. And that other guy who wrote the book doesn’t have an ounce of credibility to his name. What power does he have?

That’s my issue. Why trust a book written on power by someone who doesn’t have any power?

No, but popularity = power as far as any rapper is concerned. 50 being able to hold down the career of someone I’ve never heard of isn’t really a big deal. He can’t hold back anyone important like he used to be able to.

This is the guy that held down every up and coming NY rapper that was big enough for him to beef with [other than Jay]. Back when there were pretty big NY rappers.

50 couldn’t maintain his commercial power, which is the only kind of power that matters to people at the end of the day. Perception is reality and what self respecting consumer want a book on power from a guy who’s lost most of his.

Or, he just needs to give the appearance that he’s gone away and come back at an opportune moment to crush the competition.

I’m not sure about this Black Magic album.

That could be the nail in the coffin if it’s not received well.

    ———————————————

To a consumer looking to buy the book, the main sympol of 50’s power is his commercial power, ie his popularity. 50 Cent is a guy who couldn’t maintain his power that long. In 05 this would have been awesome.

Yes he did fall the fuck off in that regard. His album flopped. No one asks him to do guest spots, so you don’t hear him on a lot of singles. His production reeked of a guy who has no connections with any new trendy producers, other than Polow, who any Interscope artist of value could get, and Tha Bizness. He’s out of the in rod, he’s isolated himself- that’s against one of the rules in the book BTW. Hell, not sure but I bet this book flopped.

He’s definitely lost power. He’s announced an album in the summer this year. Who’s lookng foreword t that? Less an the people looking foreword to J. Cole. I know people who are waiting for J. Cole- not online either. I don’t know anyone who knows 50’s working on an album. He has no buzz- another sign of commercial decline.

He lost bro, give it up.

50 has money and people will always have an interest in what he’s doing. If you don’t think him falling back is a deliberate act, I don’t know what to tell you.

“His production reeked of a guy who has no connections with any new trendy producers”

And? So having the producer of the moment on your shit means you’re hot?

There were a handful of no names on GRODT and that album is a classic.

“To a consumer looking to buy the book, the main sympol of 50’s power is his commercial power, ie his popularity”

The book isn’t about how to be popular. It’s about how to gain and maintain power through fearlessness. And it’s the 50th law. It serves as an addendum to the 48 Laws Of Power, which was a successful book and has a built in audience. Again, smarten up.

No one is interested in what he’s doing right now. That’s a fact.

Yes, being able to hook up with the best producers of today is a sign of power.

GRODT had the hottest producer in the game on it. So did The Massacre. BISD does NOT. This isn’t about quality of music it’s about power, and wen your a musician trying to sell a book to someone, they need to know you’re powerful. The only way for the average dude to tell that about a musician is if he’s popular, has connections with other popular rappers and producers. No hot producer on album, check. No guest verses on other hot songs, check. No album sales, check. He’s not powerful to any average person.

A powerful musician can stay popular. It’s the goal of a musician trying to be powerful. My point was always why would someone buy a book on power with 50’s name on it, when he hasn’t maintained power in any way that fans can notice.

You don’t understand my point, and don’t understand what it is to brand yourself as a powerful musician in order to sell a book about how to be powerful. Smarten up.

and i dont care what Nas is doing right now… that don’t mean i won’t copp his CD…. im not checkin for j. cole does that mean he is not hot,…

all im saying is who is selling more than 50 right now in NY aside from Jay z?

Apparently Jadakiss. Didn’t his album outdo BISD first week? And that was with the special clause in BISD sales, where it was actually longer than a week.

50 has money so if he wanted to get the “hottest producers” (who are these guys anyway?) on his shit, all he had to do was make a phone call.

And again, the book was a bestseller so your point is moot.

No it’s not. Some producers WILL turn people down if they don’t want to work with them.

And perception is reality in this case. To a CONSUMER [please note that I’ve BEEN talking about the average consumer] 50 isn’t working with the best dudes right now. Guy’s like T.I. and Jay-Z are.

No my point isn’t moot, it’s been written right above your post if you’d like clarification.

And please, if you think 50 made BISD to maintain artistic credibility you’re naive and need to SMARTEN UP. “Artistic Credibility” was his selling point, like what Jay did with DOA. He was hoping that painting himself as one of the last remnants of “real hip hop the way it should be” would galvanize the public. He tried something similar with marketing Curtis, but not musically on that LP. But that strategy wasn’t a good one, as 50 had been the posterboy for commercial rap for a few years prior, and the public wouldn’t buy it.

I’m not a Weezy stan or any of that shit but I think it’s kinda hilarious how Wayne’s experimental rock album sold more than 50 cent’s RAP album.

But when he first said that, it was kind of a shot to Dre. He was kinda saying the only thing that separates Dre’s beats from everyone else is the name.

THis is right around the time the shit with Game went down and Dre wouldn’t publicly come out against him.

You serious. Whats wrong with fixing up Public Parks? Kids these days barely play sports or go outside!

Fuck it… Your right I could never picture 50 with Coldplay.

    ^^

fixing up parks is dope but not artistic. And I would put Coldplay on the same level as Middler.

Artistic integrity means never mentioning or considering sales … ever.

Or chasing “hot” producers or making “girl” songs or targetting “demos”

    ^^^

Like Camel has done since In My Lifetime Vol. 1 (ex prod by Sean “Puffy Combs)? This argument continues to be hilarious as Camel built his ENTIRE argument for being the GOAT on his record sales, money, and “hits,” but never actually gets called out for the shit sandwich albums he has put out.

And Amps right- BISD is a really good album, minus a couple of songs that shouldn’t have made the cut. People here probably haven’t listened to it since they downloaded it, but The Massacre and BISD both got MUCH better with time, particularly the Massacre.
