How Bangladesh Really Feels About Polow Da Don

jimmy-iovine-jay-z-polow-da-don

VIBE’s Best Producer Alive Bracket definitely provoked this statement, but as Bangladesh was speaking on his track record, claiming that he deserved to be in a completely different category than the one he was put in, he had this to say about other producers, namely Polow:

“All the producers in [‘Mass Appeal’], they strive for certain things,” he continued. “Like Polow will go in and say we need to make a pop record, we gotta make a Top 40 and that’s what he’ll make. See, I create organically and it becomes mass appealed. That’s why I feel like I’m better. I don’t do what is going to make me money or what the DJs are going to want to play. I just do me. And everything that I’ve done has been knocked down in the beginning, but at the end of the day it sticks to the walls. It don’t take a label to back it up, it just blows because people want different shit.”

“Honestly, I’m better than all them peoples. I’m not disrespecting them because I was influenced by Timbaland and Neptunes and all of them, but your time came and went. There’s time for other things to happen.”

“A lot of them producers, some have a sound and some don’t. I think Polow kinda does whatever, he doesn’t have a certain sound, he emulates other peoples stuff. To me, he’s probably a well-sought-out producer, but at the same time its about who you’re with, who you’re around, who’s getting you the work,” he continues. “I don’t have assistance so I’m not in Jimmy Iovine’s face. I don’t get all the Interscope work, I create the work. That makes me better because I don’t have people in my pocket. My sound is so powerful that the artist love it and it skips all the middle men. All my beats have been placed by getting it directly to the artist. I don’t really need nobody cosigning.”

That shit that makes your soul burn slow. He even went as far as to say that “A Milli” was probably the greatest beat of this era.

Hmmmm…it was certainly the most freestyled over, so it has that in its favor. But I was always under the impression that Wayne’s delivery was what took it from dope to almost amazing, which is why nobody could really make an ill freestyle over it.

For the most part I think producers make rappers but I can’t see myself listening to this fools beats no more. Back Of The Crate Status!!

Some rock artists do, in a way, but to me, shit like this is what makes hiphop ill. It was built on direct competition, which makes it wholly unique among other genres of music.

Yep, and that directly coincided with its sales downfall. Coincidence? I dont think so. And yea, every genre has fallen off saleswise with the proliferation of free music and the fact that videos dont get played on basic cable anymore, but rap took the hardest hit. Cats wanting to get a hot beat from “super” producers instead of good LPs is one of the reasons why.

Exactly, if you want to get to the technical definition, a producer isnt the person who physically creates the tracks, its the person with the vision and who gets the right performances out of the artists and beat makers. Dre is one of the illest at that, no debate.

I wouldn’t say this is why hip hop got hit hardest. Hip hop is a genre consumed more by tech savvy people. Which means more illegal dl’s than other genres.

Rock albums still sell okay because the fans are older. R&B because the fans are more female. If electronic was big enough to have a huge fall, it would, but even then less than hip hop since their hardcore fans are probably more affluent in general that hip hop’s fans.

But I agree that only a few artists get to craft great full albums now because of the drive for hits.

grow up nigga, when u do…

    heres my beats myspace.com/officialmintvintage

and give some criticism on the actual dopeness of them

  156. RNC Chairman Michael Steele Says:

On the topic of raps decline and producers, another thing is that in the first part of the 2000s when rap became arguably the biggest youth oriented genre of pop music, a lot of hip hop producers started working with pop acts eager to get in on the fun. The Neptunes, Timbaland, even Primo got in on it.

All this did was drive up costs for beats from those guys, and it produced something of a gap. R&B and Pop albums have better production budgets. So that’s where the south comes in, since a lot of their big name producers weren’t working with pop acts and were still dealing their good shit to rappers. And Southern rappers just don’t get big outside of the US for the most part. So now rap for many international fans, and less hardcore American fans especially in the Northern part, it at a shortage for superstars [not one hit wonders who are apparently big in the south but you only know one of their songs].

This is all rambled speculation though… hopefully food for thought on how the economics of rap affects who’s big and how well it sells as well.
