Video: Suzanne Vega x The Roots – Tom’s Diner

This isn’t really Hip-Hop, but then again it’s so Hip-Hop. She was flowing on this.

This went down last night on Jimmy Fallon, but didn’t air, so this is a web exclusive.

There really is no defense or justification for that type of lie.

LOL thats just semantics. Its like yeah, i guess he never lied bout being a CO cuz nobody ever stopped to think if they should ask this nigga who knows Pablo was he also employed by the FL Department of Corrections.

  5. Fresh Huxtable Says:

The truth is, though–if Ross had said he was a CO from the beginning and made the same music saying, “Hey, it’s just entertainment,” I don’t know if people would have accepted him. And the music is dope for real. If anything, it’s kind of wack that a dude with a job felt like he had to lie about criminal enterprise to have a successful rap career and be accepted by fans, and it’s even wacker that he was probably right.

    I’m gone, peace.

    Nah, he did.

When cats confronted him about the CO graduation pic, he said that wasn’t him.

And had the nerve to get angry too.

No doubt but that speaks on us as a people. That fat nigga is a true liar though. He raps not from the perspective of a hand to hand, in the trap everyday nigga but like he is Frank Lucas or some shit.

Murking a nigga don’t make you a gangster. In Gucci’s case, he was defending himself.

I read somewhere that Gucci was still going through Post Traumatic Stress after he bodied that cat.

    I can believe that.

Nah, it’s what he raps about that forced him to lie.

If he was on some Ludacris/Redman type shit, I don’t think it’d be that big of an issue.

Yeah i read somewhere that he is truly fucked up about it. I understand but at the same time i dont. Them dudes might’ve been coming to take his life.

He shoulda never lied though. It’s out the bag. Focus on spinning the story to your benefit, use it to sell albums, but straight up lying?

He coulda played it smarter then that.

But sometimes it’s hard to see the sun when you’re stuck in the dark.
    ^
I don’t deny that, bruh. But even when you can’t see the sun, you know it’s there.

But what you’re saying is a real point, which is why it’s crucial–crucial–that men of color are visible and active in our communities, especially if you’re doing something with your life. Sometimes, just seeing somebody else who’s made it out is enough for a young brother to know it’s possible. Or to see somebody having a good relationship with their wife is enough to show that it’s possible.

Going into senior year of high school, I wanted to be a psychiatrist. But I met these black business people who were doing it so major. And then one lady said to a group of about 13 kids, “If any of ya’ll don’t get full scholarships to school, let me know. I got you.” And this was after she had moved her mom out the hood and done some other major things. I’m like, who is this person that they can just be a guarantor for our educations like that? I realized then that if I could make business moves corporately and entrepreneurially, I could make a difference if I could keep from falling in love with the money. And since we didn’t have much of it coming up, I knew that I’d be all right with just a little bit. I’m doing above average financially, but I feel rich just having a big TV and an Xbox, a car, and more than one pair of shoes in the closet. It’s that perspective.

All jokes aside, you’re a smart, well-read dude. You know what type of issues all people, and especially people of color, are facing today. And I think you have the power to do something about it, if you want to, whether through your writing or down at the Boys and Girls club.

Nah, gangster woulda been Gucci murking dude and then proceeding to knock niggas off until he killed Jeezy.

    Now that’s some gangster shit.

Gucci’s an official nigga though. I don’t deny that.

The analogy doesnt work because u see the sun everyday. Like you I was fortunate enough to meet a few people who came from areas like mines and made something positive of themselves. Dog that makes us the exception. There are so many people of color who dont achieve for the simple fact that they have no idea what is actually possible.

I would love to give back to my community but I’m still working to be in a position where I can say “Look what grinding hard gets you…” and have physical things to show my success.

Cats need tangible examples. Talk is cheap.
