Video: Jae Millz Interview w/ The Source Pt. 1

This is pretty much entirely about the XXL Freshman 10 bullshit. I probably wouldn’t even have posted this but I guess he has the right to respond to the responses to his comments that we’ve posted.

Plus it’s a slow news year, so whatever.

Previously: Freddie Gibbs On XXL Cover, Jae Millz, etc.

  2. AmpGeez a.k.a. Smoke Greene Says:

Those freshman got mad sensitive over Millz remarks.

Prolly cause for some of them, that cover will be the pinnacle of their careers.

  3. Shooter Says:

if kanyes next album is college dropout/late registration status, dude deserves automatic promotion into the top 5 of all time
    ^^^

Kanye wont ever be top 5, he’s not a goood enough rapper

but yeh I expect crack rocks from his next album

  9. Illy Says:

The only thing hot about Drake’s “Over” is the sample that was used. #Random

  10. Charles Oakley Says:

all the pre-manufactured drake hype is starting to make me sick. i like him as an artist, he makes some cool songs, but with the machine behind him his presence everywhere is becoming unbearable. i reiterate, i like his music, but similar to 50 and game, when you look at the procution list, the features, and the millions in advertising (and payola) of course hes gonna be on every radio station and website. he aint hov, he aint wayne, he aint kanye. all them dudes are better. this shit may have started organically but the fuckin powers that be saw dollar signs and got behind him. tml better be fuckin illmatic part deux for all the attention dude is gettin…
    *end rant*

  11. Vincent Van Dro Says:

No shots at Jay but he’s desperately trying to keep pace with Kanye currently, and it comes off real corny. So it’s kinda weird how people say he’s clear GOAT but Kanye won’t ever contend.

  12. Charles Oakley Says:

with that being said, drake – sawy wahts real is tough

but all this dumbing down bullshit, already on your debut?
naw dogg, take those a-b-c rhymes thataway—–>

    You’re reaching.

Most of the niggas on that cover exist soley on the net and in music publications written by cats who be on the web.

Niggas in the streets of NY don’t know who the fuck Pill or Freddie Gibbs or Donnis or Wiz Khalifa are.

These cats can rap but they are delusional to believe they are big in the streets like that. Maybe in their hometowns but nationally?

    Nah.

  15. hl Says:

Kanye wont ever be top 5, he’s not a goood enough rapper

Why don’t people understand this. Its nothing against Kanye cause that nigga is dope.

  16. Vincent Van Dro Says:

    *applauds Oakley*

nothing important in music ever comes through the front door. It breaks in through the ceiling.

    ====================================
Even if you’ve never heard of him previously, his recent Wayne affiliation has upped his profile considerably.

And niggas who know rap know who Millz is.

  19. hl Says:

Ain’t nobody checking for Millz, ya’ll need to stop it.

Great rant, and I agree on most points.

    @ Vincent Van Dro

Seriously! Why can’t anyone see that the Student has now become the Teacher.

Kanye is in my Top 5 now.

  23. hl Says:

If they edited out every Millz verse from the Young Money album no one would notice.

    Who said “check for”?

But do you know of him and what he’s done as far as the battle circuit?

If you don’t, your Hip-Hop knowledge is lacking.

i love Ye, CD is one of my favorite albums of all time, but if Ye is top 5 rappers of all time then eskay is 6’7″ (p.s. i luv nahright)

tremendously. While Jay was writing ‘Off That’ Kanye was schwiggin bottles rockin Timbs, next time I saw Jay (n) he was backpeddling some bs about oh I needed to revive Timbs or some shit. Come on dude (II)

    ————————————————–

    Exactly.

It depends on what your criteria for a good rapper is. He may not rap well as far as deliver/flow, or rhymes go, but he makes up for it with perfect songwriting and great cohesive albums. And he takes more SUCCESSFUL risks than any big name rapper.

I think he’s already a GOAT candidate personally, maybe not top 5 but the next album could put him there.

  28. EffYou Says:

If a nigga with no album in 10 years can have his opinion on the cover, then the niggas have the right to say something about it..Millz album is still NEVER coming out..especially since wayne fuckin wit cory gunz now too..He should worry bout his own career before judgin someone else’s moves..I bet u ALL of these niggas drop albums before mmillz does

  29. ClarenceD Says:

Freddie Gibbs is the least interesting of all the XXL Freshmen… guess he had to beef with somebody to remain relevant for a few more weeks…

    Jae Millz > Freddie Gibbs

    but i don’t particularly care

  30. No_neva-eva Says:

Niggas in the streets of NY don’t know who the fuck Pill or Freddie Gibbs or Donnis or Wiz Khalifa are.

    ^^^^

I don’t really ride for the above dudes, I think Gibbs has mad potential but is still heavy in the early Kast / UGK lane…but I’m still checkin for him. But my point here is that ‘Niggas in the streets of NY’ aren’t kingmakers like they were in the 90s. Dudes in NY are feeling a lot of NY artists that nobody cares about. Dudes like Lil Boosie are having major indy careers, making major money without NY cosignage. UGK were huge in the South and NY cats were sleeping forever til Jay cosigned.

Basically I think XXL fell the f*ck off and being on that cover ain’t what it was. But Millz and all these other dudes would be better off focusing on making music that’s built to last rather than talking reckless to the press.

  31. Sir Fakely Deep Says:

    Heist of The Century >>>>>

    AND he was 18.

people need to retire the word ‘relevant’ especially when talking about Wu. Cuban Linx 2, The Massacre, Ghostface in general. Stop it.

  32. Illy Says:

Jae Millz may not be a household name but he is a legendary freestyle artist who probably never lost a battle, freestyled on the legendary Smack DVD’s, freestyled on MTV when he roasted the fat ugly black nigga from Diddy’s Making Of The band at Diddy’s request and is down with the hottest (though corny) crew out that happens to belong to the hottest overall rapper in the game. Therefore Millz > Pillz, Gibbs and all them other internet rappers on XXL’s Freshman 2010 cover. However I disagree with him on Vado since he needs to get from behind Cam’s shadow and build his own following.

  33. deez nuts Says:

Millz needs to go watch his own interview again. He said that he only knew half of the list and about the other half, “these niggas is fucking wack.” So him saying that he didn’t diss anybody and just expressed his opinion is the dumbest shit he could say. His whole bullshit career is a throwaway and nobody with a company titled “Wanna Blow” should talk shit about anything. Thats the gayest shit ever

  34. thehoodnerd Says:

Eskay: Plus it’s a slow news year.

^ I was just thinking this. Not really any excitement this year.

  35. Nut$ Says:

    Es,

I know Millz isnt paying you the payola the rest of the freshmen 10 are but you HAVE to know Millz is better then those faggots man…SMH

  36. Uptown Cherry Says:

Why the hell is it so hard for them to use a normal media player…. youtube….. vimeo… this shit sucks balls

  37. yahright Says:

lol at millz…you said youre more outspoken then kanye and in the same interview dont name the guys u said are wack. Now he backpedaling like a bitch.

    Jae Millz…WHO

  38. Branson_Blunts Says:

Jae Millz is a fucking GENIUS. This is by far the best marketing plan ever developed for a wack ass rapper. Before the XXL mag who the fuck was talking about Millz? Now all the ninjas on the blogs are going ham over this wack ass ninja. Anyone find it funny his mixtape drops then he starts talking shit he did a 50 Cent move. More power to this bum.
