Dj Khaled + Ace Hood = flop (somehow he managed to pump out a second cd )

Kay Slay + Papoose = fail for not puttin his shit out at the height of his buzz

I kno there is more but has a rapper ever garnered enough mainstream attention from being a Dj’s artist?

  26. Tong Po Flo Says:

I kno there is more but has a rapper ever garnered enough mainstream attention from being a Dj’s artist?

thats because most emcees/ rappers dont have longevity or that “it” thing nowadays. Im not gonna say snap music or crunk music killed it because i believe a little bit of everything is good. But i think its badwagoning thats def. a problem. Not enough diversity. Unless a really fux wit an artists or the song title got me curious im not even checkin for it

Only thing i can say for YM is that’s hella promotion but is it worth it? Jae Milz jus tryin to draw some kinda attention. Real talk I woulda jus kept it movin and let him talk. Im on some artist type shit but wit that bein said i think jae milz would crush Pill, Nipsey…never listened to Donnis or some of the others but Milz got them def. cuz i think he’s still capable of deliverin waht he used to.

J Cole the hottest one of them. I heard one song of Jay Rock’s so he’s questionable in my book. Fashawn’s Boy Meets World was dope and i fux wit Wiz.

If anything they all should thank Milz for the extra promotion

take your open heel of both hands and place them firmly right above both ears, slap and squeeze inward real hard (hands forcefully towards each other, in a clapping, then squeezing motion)… this will temporarily disable her senses and chill her the fuck out, cause most people not familiar with that move …

I respect pure rap artist more, but at one time, I respected flat out, 16 bar killer type rappers more, but the older I got, the more I started feeling actual songs rather than just 16’s, what do guys like more? (n)

    —-

Good question. There’s an interview in that Born to Use Mics book they made about Illmatic. I believe Bobbito was speaking to Nas. He was saying that when he came out he felt he had to say the illest punchlines and what not to bring people in and be like “who is this dude”. But when he made the album he felt he had to tone that down and spit something people could chew on (nh). I’m paraphrasing, but basically he was saying flatout rapping gets people to take notice, but once you have the people listen you gotta come with something with more substance.

  111. G7 Says:

There aren’t too many punchline/hot 16 rappers that belong in the top 10 all-time. Actually I can’t really think of any. You could argue Big L. He’d be the closest.

if I has to pick one, artists who make real songs over a hot 16. Because songs last forever. I was listening to A Milli the other day, and it’s already starting to lose it’s shine. But if Mrs. Fat Booty comes on it’s just as great as it was the first time I heard it, if not better.

Styles free’s go extra hard (pause) but his songs trumps all of his freestyles.

He wants to rap too and what not, and he says he goes straight to the booth and freestyle, I try to school him on the importance of writing, but he’s stuck on this whole freestyling shit, so I just wash my hands with it.

people hear that Jay and Wayne do that, and they think they can do it too. But while Wayne at his best approaches brilliance, his quality control is poor. So if your’re going to make 2500 songs a year and pick the best 15 or so for an album, okay. But most don’t have that work ethic, so they end up being garbage. Jay, on the other hand, is a true anomaly. And people misunderstand him: it’s not that he doesn’t write, it’s that he doesn’t write things DOWN. Dude is able to keep the whole song in his head. So there’s a difference.

Jay fucked up by not explaining that shit properly. Niggas thought he hears the beat, goes in the booth and raps. There is a period where he puts the shit together that is basically writing he just does it in his head. Completely different than freestyling.

    >I think 50 is a prime example of a nigga showing zero evolution. Damn near every 50 song i feel like I’ve heard before, and better, on GRODT.

^Correct, and the sad part about it is, 50 as a artist degressed to the bottom of the barrel, when it’s usually the other way around. I’ve been listening to 50 since “rowdy rowdy” and he had some dope songs “ghetto qu’ran” “50 bars” “corner bodega” etc, then he started doing the mixtape type songs, made GRODT & chased that wave until it dried up. I’ll never doubt 50 and his capabilities on making songs with concepts, but he hasn’t taken that road for more than one songs per album since power of a dollar

^Right. This one story i’ll never forget, in 2005 when I was signed to this independant label, for extra cash the studio owner use to make dude pay for studio time, so it was this one dude that came in off someone elses ticket (another artist on the labels homeboy I guess) and he said he only freestyles his songs, the dudes that own the label are seasoned veterans (never actually blew, but have been around the music industry) (n) so anyway, the engineer told homeboy, yo, I don’t record niggas that go in and straight freestyle (this session was free for them) and dude said he never writes and was talking like he was hot fiya, so my engineer put him to the test, threw a beat on and said go in there and freestyle, the look in his eyes said everything, dude was straight shook, he went in there, said some wack shit with sprinkles of crack, came out the booth and sat down, 15 minutes, dude put on his coat and left, let’s just say i’ve never seen that nigga at that studio again, lol.

Why is it so hard for niggas to sit and write? Dudes are just lazy, it’ll be time si’m in cyphers and niggas freestyling, i’d drop a old 16 and niggas get mad, on some “aint none of us freestyling” nigga so what, it’s not my fault you can’t read so you gotta free everything, smh.

As for a song with Taylor, I can see them opening up the VMAs, or presenting the first award together. That kind of moment is what MTV lives for (those fuckers), and I don’t think another award show (AMAs, Grammys) would want to roll the dice on that kind of gimmick. lol at you coppin pleas for wayne. He aint never shot nobody but himself, glorifies ganglife, and he kisses his daddy.

^i’m not copping pleas for wayne, you could’ve said anyone and i’d did the same thing, difference with rawse is, he’s blatenly lying in all of our face, kid type lies, female type lies too, the way a female would say “that’s your old girl? yeah, I know niggas that fucked her” knowing she’s lying, exactly like rawse saying “noreiga owes him favors” like nigga who do you think you’re talking to?

I guess the saying “it’s only so long fake thugs can pretend” is long gone since niggas is protecting the liars.

no shots at niggas tho, it’s all entertainment, but let’s not overlook one niggas flaws cause you like his music more than another

Wayne has been raised by and hung around dealers, murderers, etc. pretty much all of his life…B.G. is a certified goon, was actively “hustling” in Detroit years after he left CMR and has been rapping since the age of 13, 14 just like wayne…same thing for Turk who is currently serving time in the pen for shooting a cop while they raiding a house he was selling drugs out of in Memphis…Wayne wasn’t Nino Brown or Big Meech at all he was a petty weed man way back in middle schol and did his little side hustle thing with blow and H in New Orleans East in the post Block is Hot pre Carter 1 days (hint: he didn’t originally meet T-Street & Gudda on some rap shit)…now granted he wasn’t out making hand to hand crack deals or no silly shit like that, he was more the money man…and certainly he’s no killer…but I don’t know where this idea that Wayne came up like Bow Wow comes from
