With Kanye West and Q-Tip on board as executive producers, Cons calls this album Blueprint meets Midnight Marauders, sonically speaking.

nah, BP3 ain’t no classic. You can’t really put it up against Jay-Z’s actual classics (RD, Blueprint) or his near and arguable classics (Black Album, AG) and say BP3 is on the same level, really.

***I would say that the “arguable” classics, are actual classics…BP3 is more pop than I would have liked, but exactly what I expected, and still dope, overall…really, not lyrically on the level of some of its predecessors, but still great, with regard to overall song construction and concept, imo…

I actually agree with this, Icon. I think AG is brilliant. But these two albums aren’t universally accepted as classics, although I think they should be.

  12. Fresh Huxtable Says:

It’s not a coincidence that Jay’s most classic albums are also his most soulfully produced.

I can understand why someone would like BP3. It’s not a bad album. I just wasn’t feeling the direction and sound. There’s a few joints on there I would throw on a best of Jay playlist though.

  19. landlord Says:

KC is almost a good LP… its just not very cohesive… but it has a few good joints on there …

  20. Fresh Huxtable Says:

I meant agree about TBA and AG being actual classics.

@Land: Best of Both Worlds? Is that a shot or are you serious? I always felt that was an album that should’ve been dope but wasn’t.

Agreed, and I think it is his best album. Most complete, most honest, shows a complete grown man. three dimensional, in a way the other albums are not.
