Video: Ice Cube – I Rep That West (Live)

Here’s the first single from I Am The West, dropping July 13th, which he performed over the weekend at Paid Dues 2010 in San Bernardino, CA.

People around the world that think they wanna bang
Don’t get your ass caught up like Lil Wayne

After the jump he talks about new rappers dissing him (Jay Rock & Glasses Malone) before getting into “Check Yourself” and he also does another new song called “Drink The Kool-Aid,” where he possibly has a few subliminals and name-checks Martin Louie The King Jr. and “the new West.”

Cube is a funny nigga, there’s no denying what he did for west coast rap. But his story he throws out there and his credentials are two completely different stories. Not hating on the dude though because he did start the “gangsta” shit.
Nipsey already said it best about rappers claiming sets. None of these niggas would bang on a yard with 30 adversaries staring them in the face. They didn’t come from it and they never put in work to claim, and to real bangers it’s seen as disrespectful.

Man, Jay Rock needs to sit down somewhere. He wants Cube to be thinking about him, that’s all it is.

That being said … I’m checking for that Jay Rock/Freddie Gibbs jawn.

CUBE is a legend straight up…His 1st 3 albums > Anything released in the last 10 years PERIOD!

Btw, labels aren’t signing gangsta No way, No how!

I’m a Wayne fan and I don’t have a problem with that line, that niggas in jail so its nothing but fact. As far as Cube not living what he rap about I don’t buy it. W.C. is solid and I don’t think dude would just walk around backing a straight fraud like that plus Cube aint never claim to be the most gangbanging-est straight Cripped out nigga know way he always been talking cautionary tales and shit. It’d be different if he was Snoop and being a Crip or any kind of banger down with was key party a part of his persona

  10. Knuckz Says:

Cube has always rapped from an affiliate perspective. Never claimed any gang.

  11. WestSiderWriter Says:

    I was there…Grenade launched…

Curious how Cube feels about Snoop doing the opposite and trying to help youger artists by co-signing them a la Nipsey. Seems like he might be alleinating himself…

But, it won’t be all bad, for him or the “New West”, as long as cats can keep it on wax. Controversy sells. Problem is, a lot of these dudes got fragile ass egos and might get on some street shit because of it. Time will tell…
