I refuse to believe Kanye went back to regular rapping. He will never be old Kanye again. You cant go THAT far off the reservation and just come back like you havent been prancing around like hip hops faggot icon for the past few yrs.

He’ll probably get to rapping as well as he did on Graduation… which wasn’t amazing, really. But if the beats hold up and he has a couple of lyrical gems, it’ll probably be the album I listen to most this year, like Graduation was in 07.

And I must be the only one who thinks “I’m So Appalled” wasn’t really good. His flow was wack, and he wasn’t really that deep even though he was trying to be. Beat was great though. That freestyle he did at the Cudi show was WAY better. If he raps like that GAJ will be his fourth classic.

when L.O.N.S. first came out, Milo, and also The Bomb Squad laced them with ferocious state of the art beats, especially for that era…

“Sobb Story” and “International Zone Coasters” STILL knock …

if Busta didnt go solo they would have been maybe like WuTang Clan as far as group success …

Tip came out and said Shaheed was kind of a liar and that he made most of the beats.

    wow… i wasnt aware of that …

I never really understood what was Ali Shaheed’s purpose in Tribe. Yeah he was the Dj but before Wikipedia I always thought he was making the beats.

By the way, unless those guys [RZA, Tip, Pete Rock] are co-producing with Ye, I don’t see this being a good thing.

Those guys are past their prime, and make beats that people don’t want on a mainstream level. Kanye’s one of the two biggest rappers in the world right now.

Hopefully he’ll fuse those producers’ styles with something the way he fused that minimalist shit with the tribal drum sounds on 808s. Kanye’s a genius aggregator, as far as fusing elements to put a new spin on an old sound goes. The whole stringed soundscapes with soul samples on the first two lp’s, soul+eurohouse on Graduation, and 808s.

He’s been doing well on guest verses in the meantime, though. That’s why I think rapping-wsie he’ll be at Graduation level, so not as good as the first two lp’s.

^ I copped that but never paid attention to the production credits, no wonder I’m so ignorant when it comes to Q’s production side

  25. why? Says:

Think about this. All the best music lists of the last decade included Kanye’s first three albums and even 808’s got a spot in a few. College Dropout was number 1 on a few pretty important magazines and blog lists. Nobody really knows what GAJ is gonna be like. Plus Graduation was a very good effort at making something different. 808’s was him in his I don’t give a fuck mode and shit was good too but was a temporary phase. All the beats dudes been making since 2009 don’t sound like his first two albums but they were still good. Plus dude really stepped up his rapping skills in the past year and did better than the rappers who featured him on their songs. Don’t expect him to make another Two Words or Diamonds and then get disappointed because you already know Kanye don’t do shit like other rappers.

    yup

Ye may have enlisted those old producers, but he’s obviously gonna put a new spin on things like I mentioned in my earlier post.

  27. RNC Chairman Michael Steele Says:

And 808s may not have made as many lists, but in due time it’ll be looked at as either his best or one of his best.

It was just too recent for the critics to universally accept it as a classic. You know 75% of the critics follow the herd.

I didn’t say he was gonna use eurohouse on this lp, I said he did that on graduation. He’ll probably find something new to throw into the mix with this one.

I think his disappointing work [but still god overall] on bp3 was because he can’t take as many risks on a jay album, jay won’t let that happen [cause jays not actually a risk taker, he just acts like one]. I’m pretty confident the production will be great. I just hope he raps like LR, and not Graduation, which I think is most likely.
