@ Remix– I really like Forever (his verse is kinda corny, but the drakeisms that usually infuriate me are kept to a minimum) and Fed Up (he makes good go time rah-rah verses), and the reference track he did for that J-Foxx song was really, really good. I also heard another singing song of his that I enjoyed, and the older pre-SFG stuff was right in my lane (nh).

The oversaturation and his “really just aight, even at his best”-ness just bugs me.

    IMO

Timbo, Missy, and the Inept-Tunes fall into the “I never really got what the big deal was” category. Their stuff seemed different just for the sake of being different. I do like the occasional song from them, but for the most part it’s been unpleasant to mine ears. Maybe I just hate Virginia? No idea, lol..

Mayer, in addition to being a douchebag, is someone my ex likes. It’s a shitty reason, but for that I’m extra difficult when it comes to his music. But most of what I’ve heard from him is average, and his “Daughters” song was so transparent and insincere that, even if it was satire, it just turned me off completely to his music.

Oh, and in addition to not liking her music, Missy reminds me of someone I don’t like as well as a shitty time in Reytopia (long stories that not even I’m not dumb enough to tell on Nah)

So equal parts preference and craziness, but ultimately their music just never appealed to me, was never aurally pleasing.

You’re right, but while I do enjoy rap music, I fucking hate hot 97 because every other song played is a Drake song, no lie. In a year he won’t matter, which is a shame, I bet he has a lot of love for the game (nh) but he’s the taylor swift of rap–overexposed. *dappage*

  41. Fresh Huxtable Says:

@Rey: i get that. With Mayer, here’s why I cosign him: he really, really studies the music. Daughters is not a good representation. But with Continuum, you can tell that dude spent a lot of time listening to D’Angelo’s “Voodoo.” JM used to write a column for Esquire, and he really knows music. Don’t let your ex prevent you from hearing a classic album. And I’ve seen him live twice, and his live show is incredible.
