^ Lol being a lyricist lover is a bad thing? Me thinks not. For me the reason to listen to certain songs/music is to get simulated (ll) as well as entertained, but most cats listen to hip hop purely for the entertain value of it i.e. the gucci mane lovers and the cats that hop on the newest thing. People like that are the ones that would rather see Transformers than Pursuit of Happyness, it all the matter of what you like.

    ^^^

That “best pure spitter” shit doesn’t mean you can write a song or build a legacy for yourself. If that was the case, Canibus would be the undisputed GOAT right now, and Rhymefest would be in Kanye’s Spot right now. Plus, you can’t say “current” without looking at the past– Mobb Deep has a history of classic records, songs, and verses that J. Cole CANNOT match at this point. Finally, until J. cole can give me something like P’s first verse on Quiet Storm, or at least something of that caliber, he’s internet hype. Now, do I think J. Cole is a better rapper? Depends on the mood I’m in. I grew up on Mobb, so its hard to look past what they mean to me musically; J. Cole, while being a better technical rapper, doesn’t have that “it” factor (or the flow to match) that Prodigy had on The Infamous-Murda Muzik– that nigga, from flow, to content, to lyrics, to voice– was pound for pound top 5 in New York until Shawn paid for those pictures from his mother’s dance school.

1st, i don’t fuck with Luda. that’s just not my lane.
now, comparing Drake mixtapes to Fab’s is classic apples/oranges shit. Fab has consisitently proven to be one of the greatest punchliners ever in mixtape history. Drake just can’t do punchlines better than Fab. on the other hand, Drake is more of a complete song developer. Fab just flows with disgusting wordplay, without regard for creating a complete song format. again this is all just my opinion. personally (and obviously) i think Fab’s mixtapes are lyrically better than Drake, and there’s nothing you can type to make me think otherwise.

  112. KzA Says:

Yea there are completely different kinds of mixtapes out there..

You have No ceilings\Enemy of the State type tapes.. just jackin beats and throwing rhymes over them

But when you look at something like So Far Gone or the Warm Up… These were albums made by artists who had no resources to make an actual album. SFG HAS to count in Drakes catalog… The Warm Up HAS to be included in JColes catalog.. Both are just way to classic (classic for the artist, not hiphop as a whole) to not be included

the reason lupe will never be listened 2 on a mainstream level is because dude doesnt have the commercial appeal 2 sell, drake does. all these “conscious” rappers make the same mistake..they seem 2 forget just because their saying whats real and whats smart doesnt mean people want 2 hear it on a national level..the idea is 2 have a very “fly” social image that appeals 2 the mainstream..thats why famous people have something called “image consultants”. let me put it like this for you..imagine if lil wayne got on mtv right now and started preaching some real knowledge..just imagine how many kids and young adults he could influence in a POSITIVE WAY instead of a negative way like he does now..my point is this, the last influential rapper who was very conscious and sold on a mainstream level was tupac. other rappers like biggie, ice t, big pun, and big L were NEVER as intellectual as tupac..thats why many rap fans consider tupac the best..thats what lupe and these other “conscious” rappers lack..thats style.

hip hop is seriously probably the only genre of music that is all about materialistic, superficial, watered down bullshit..thats why so many people (like camron) talk down on other rappers like jay z for being 40 years old..why is that you ask? because when it comes down 2 it all rappers know the truth..if your still rapping about fucking bitches, smoking weed, and killing people at 40 years old then you need 2 seriously check yourself..the hood is nothing but a bunch of ignorant dudes who think that living the fastlife is gonna get them somewhere..its sad because the only role models the hood has is drug dealers, kingpins and in some neighborhoods gang leaders..thats it, just like tupac said “how the fuck you gonna except these young boyz 2 be men when their’s 12 houses on the block and their aint a real man in any one of them mothafuckas?” you know what pisses me off more then rappers who lie? stupid ignorant fucking “og’s” who influence are youth into gangs and drug dealing and then 2 top it off they fuck up our neighborhoods with drugs and violence and then when they eventually get caught and catch 10+ years or get shot only THEN do they wanna “educate” the youth and “express their remorse” for what they did..GTFOH with that bullshit, these guys call themselves “leaders” but really these men are nothing more then cowards who promote violence, bullshit, and ignorance..whats even more ironic is that rappers are now taking the same roles EXCEPT..they never tell kids how running the streets can get you killed or life is prison because these pussy fucks get 2 sit in their million dollars houses talking about how the sell drugs knowing damn well they got all that money RAPPING about that lifestyle..they basically get all the benefits without the repercussions, fucking cowards as well..

what hip hop needs is someone young and MARKETABLE 2 speak some knowledge because kids dont wanna listen 2 old men talk, im in no one saying we need someone with JUST swag, because we already have dumbass rappers like that, im saying we need someone with swag AND a positive moving message..im not saying its right, im just speaking whats real..until we have another REAL intellectual leader like tupac who realizes his influence 2 the world were just gonna continue having a bunch of “sheep” running around following whatever is “hot”.

sorry for writing the chapters but rappers now days piss me the fuck off, getting kids 2 catch felonies and fuck up their whole lives because they wanna be like their favorite rapper..

mixtapes can sound as good if not better than an album, they can have better songs to. Same with Jay Elec, no shots at Nah though. There should be an unspoken rule saying that you have to jack beats over 18 months old. Then cats might bring creativity back to it. Artist were forced to release music themselves b/c of a lack of proprer promotion; 3. Major labels have the final say on what gets released which prevents artist from putting out the vision of music, and 4. Allows artist to get paid from shows and build a fanbase and possibly their own record labels
