Video: Jay Electronica Praises Soulja Boy

If you would have asked me this two years ago, I would have said lyricism was lacking. Like somebody would say Soulja Boy … you would say he’s not a lyricist, right? If you took a poll and said, ‘Is Soulja Boy a lyricist?’ People would say no, right?

But it’s not the words, it’s energy of what he does that’s the lyrics. It’s not the lyrics — the energy of it is the connector. The energy of it is greater than the words of it. In a sense, lyrics has been lacking in the contest of grammar and vocabulary, but the spirit and energy of it is never gone — or else the complete genre of hip-hop is gone.”

In the written piece, he lists all his separate upcoming projects with collaborators Nas, Lupe Fiasco, Mos Def, and Guilty Simpson. All of which he says you can expect this year.

Along with the album, Act III, this year too… Don’t hold your breath.

Previously: Jay Electronica: “My Dreams Are Coming True” [MTV]

It’s still Act II. Act III, the official album, which “Exhibit A,” “Exhibit C,” and “Dear Moleskin” are a part of. Me and Mos Def have a project that we’re doing, me and Guilty Simpson have a project that we’re doing. I would like to do a project with Lupe Fiasco — we’re going to do a project at some point. Me and Nas have a project that we’re doing. I’m just trying. I’m in the process of working and connecting. I don’t really feel like a song or an album is the end-all, be-all to what we’re doing.

You can expect my album this year. You can expect multiple projects this year. We’re going to do a lot this year.

Dog, as soon as Digi said Landlord was the reason he almost quit rap, i immediately went to Lands song. Then came the end of the song and then i proceeded to do 4 lines of raw asbestos.

He don’t shoot back, he’s the camel of nahright, he’s that good

  21. spirit equality Says:

But it’s not the words, it’s energy of what he does that’s the lyrics.

^ when being an apologist goes wrong…come on, fam…lyrics ARE words…if the words you’re spitting aren’t up to par, you’re not a good lyricist, end of discussion. energy? GOH.

  22. spirit equality Says:

soulja boy is a wack lyricist. everybody can’t be good at everything. he makes fun songs, but line for line his lyrics are basura.

  23. Leonard Washington aka the Silky Johnson of Nah Right=HATE! HATE! HATE! Says:

soulja boy’s rhymes should be used panty liners in a women’s correctional facility

  24. Agrees with Spirit Says:

I’m sick of people showin Soulja Boy love. This guy is part of the end of rap, along with Gucci, Waka whatever, OJ Da Jooseman, and Plies.

  25. smurf8et Says:

    I NEVER write in these blogs, but this just compelled me to write today this guy is really really lost his mind to think we are just that stupid to believe this B.S. he’s trying to push. I can’t believe anyone in their right mind that say they love Hip-Hop believes that Soulja Boy is a lyricist or great motivator or whatever that B.S. he’s trying gas the public’s head up with IT DOESN’T FLY JAY ELEC. He’s has got to be on the TAKE (receiving cash from Collie Park to co-sign for this kid.) Maybe he just wants to be next to the money crowd, but to lose your soul or realness of your music and sound its sad just plain sad a true lost of his dreams unfulfilled. I guess its a sign of the time the end of Hip-Hop is near when so-called good M.C. or Emcee’s co-sign for the WICK WEAK WHACK :-{

  26. top ramen shotta Says:

his delusions of grandeur are refreshing. i’ll be surprised if he releases anything officially before 2011.
