I’m thinking while listening to The Miseducation of L.H if she and The Fugees got back together damn that shit would kind of suck. Wyclef ain’t great, the other dude has always been whatevers, and who knows what goes through Mrs. Hill’s head nowadays.

Next I hear a Dilla song and thought damn if he was still alive just imagine how big Kanye got (producer/rapper wise). 2010 is gonna be year of No I.D. Dilla forever underrated and never really appreciated by most but the few that know Jay Dee know that dude should’ve been getting the recognition he deserved. Shit would be different today. Double-0 & Naledge’s third LP

^ When was the second one?

  10. London Bloke Says:

After winning an ‘05 Justo Award for underground rapper of the year and landing a notable feature on Busta Rhymes’ “Touch It (Remix),” Jive signed him for $1.5 million. The deal turned out to be a ginormous disappointment, with Pap citing “creative differences” upon parting ways with the label in ’07.His debut Nacirema Dream never surfaced, which we can’t understand being that we know lots of girls who want to hear songs about fitted hats and letters being slaughtered.

^ aint no label foolish enough to give a freshmen that type of signing bonus, even though there was a bidding war for him. Sure enough they had to recoup, but they never do, and at the end of the day its a write off, a complete wash, so ends up being a win for both.

  14. London Bloke Says:

… I always thought, that how dope of an mc Pap is, he was always missing something to me. Maybe it was the OD’ing on the complex rhyme scheme. Lyricism has its place, but you can’t let it overshadow the overall entertainment value of the music….

    case and point.

… You see how Pun managed to use his lyricism for the acknowledgment, but he also new how to be melodic with the flow.

    ^^^

Yeah cuz if somebody wants to cut me check for 1.5 and never put my album out then i would be alright with that. Shit that should be the new hustle 4 rappers, instigate a bidding war, sign to the highest bidder, cite “creative differences”, skate with the bread.

  20. London Bloke Says:

    Yeah full co-sign.

papoose lyrical wordplay is towards the top the scale, but his content isnt great except law etc, and he’s not got much else in the way of flow and charisma

  22. Black Says:

Him signing to Jive is ironic becuz it actually shows how out of touch both parties were/are. Jive is like boy band central and Pap is the complete opposite of that. Niggaz know he saw 1.5 and was just like fuck it i can make it work.

  23. Joe 88 Says:

Papoose went from getting 1.5 to sign on the line

    ————————————————

I dunno if Dilla would have been big. His production style, while similar to Kanye’s is a lot less bombastic [can’t think of a better word]. He’s better suited to underground/alternative artists. Whereas Kanye and Just Blaze kind of always go for the big hook when sampling a sould record, or at least something [usually either in the intro or coda] that could serve as a big hook on the song.

Compare the songs on Blueprint, or even on the two Common albums that Ye did to some of Dilla’s stuff. Dilla’s beats are more subtle, Ye’s stuff jumps out at you. Both are very talented.

    ——————————————————-

If you want to get big, you’d better have a killer deliver based on whatever production style is popular at the time, or you need to be able to sing a hook over whatever production style is popular at the time. Sounding good over whatever production style is popular at the moment is important, then you need to know how to market yourself.

Drake can sing a hook like a motherfucker, which then draws attention to his lyrics which are okay-above average IMO. 50 used to be able to sing a hook, but can’t do it over the kind of beats people like now.

Most bloggers who push rappers they like forget this when wondering why a lot of artists flop. Know this and you can predict who’ll succeed and fail far ahead of time.

Belive it or not, Carmelo is beating LeBron in faceoffs (n) since they both came into the league, the nuggets have always pwned the Cavs. The media won’t tell that side of the story, the stat line last night before the game was “Melo avg 15ppg the last 2 games he’s faced the cavs” but the nuggets won the last two meetings, not including last night.

The media has been riding lebron’s nuts BEFORE he came into the league, it’s quite disgusting too, carmelo made the game winner last night, but guess what was #1 on sportscenter? J.J Hickson’s dunk over NeNe, now if lebron would’ve hit that last shot, we would have never ever heard the end of it, hell they still show that game winner lebron his over the magic last season in the playoffs, AND THEY DIDN’T EVEN WIN THE SERIES, smh.

Not to mention, LeBron left the court last night w/o shaking anyones hands AGAIN. I didn’t even hear any talk about it on NBATV, I guess it’s just acceptable now for lebron to not show any sportsmanship. smh.

^Not true, melo took his team to the playoffs the first year they was in the league, while lebron sat at home. Carmelo also had better stats than lebron in there rookie season, but they gave the ROTY to lebron. Around there 3rd season is where the seperation started to take place, but not by much, the year of the brawl in the garden, melo was avg 32ppg a game, that 15 game suspension fucked that whole MVP season up for him.

Melo is definitely a better pure score than Lebron but i dunno bout all around. 71. Joe 88 Says:

LeBron is a better passer, that’s really about it. They are both mediocore on ball defenders (n) Lebron chase down shots, and carmelo plays the passing lanes well. Lebron is slightly a better rebounder, but that’s simply cause melo takes off on the boards and got K-Mart and NeNe to clean up down there. (n) Melo is definently more clutch than lebron, this is the first season of lebron’s career where he started dominating in the 4th qtr (check NBA.com) the # are up over there.

Honestly, there both very very talented, one is more explosive, while the others game is more melo, and it’s hard to market a 16 foot jump shot (Melo) against a dunk from the 3pt line (lebron) that’s why lebron gets so much attention really
