I wouldn’t be mad if you or even the other two posted some views and opinions and took a few minutes to explain and make people understand the state of the game and go back to writing paragraphs on shit you dudes got on your mind. If you getting paid to post something than do your thing but if you just feel like you gotta post why not instead post something the commenters and bloggers can debate on that for once has to do with the post. A lot of posts just get neglected and I rather just be reading shit instead esp. if there isn’t an interesting post happening. I understand this is a a Hip Hop news site but damn people gotta be educated on some shit because they might be following some bullshit.

I understand this is just a comment from another daily commenter but I rather be reading and learning on Nah than reading crap on Rap Radar.

today’s version of basketball is the absolute other extreme. When things lean too much towards either extreme, the overall quality of the game suffers. Thus, balance is needed.
    ========================

Nobody makes them play like they do so why should their be rules to force them to do pick and rolls? Nobody wants to see that BS… lets make them not dribble and use peach baskets too

    longevity>>>>>>instant gratification
    is the same as
pick&roll, two handed bounce passes, higher free throw %>>>windmill dunks/crossovers/no-look passes every posession.

it’s not completely about what people want to see; it’s also about what’s good for the sport’s longevity. people want to see 82 And1 games, but that is just not a good idea. Otherwise, And1 would’ve maintained some semblance of relevancy for more than a few years.

  3. nation Says:

what can we post to keep you guys entertained that won’t scare off the 95% of people that come to this site and don’t leave comments regularly?

not dismissing your comment, even though what you’re saying doesn’t make any sense to me, but I’m interested in knowing what you think we could do better?

I know what you mean though, a bit, I’ve pleaded with eskay to start writing about everyday shit on here (like, say, the john mayer mess) but it’ll only be wack to people who come here to get MP3s and watch videos. even though I’m sure eskay’s opinion is one that matters (ok, maybe not the john mayer thing, but something like that)

I feel like a lot of people will get at mad us when really it’s just the state of rap is sorta wack right now. there’s nothing that we could really do about it other than implore artists to step their game up, but then we’re “hating”

if we post more no names, we become that kinda site and trust me a majority of people truly don’t give a fuck about who’s new in rap, they give a fuck about what’s new

and if we only post news about jay/nas/50 then we’re the problem and we’re not supporting the little guy

we’re trying to do the best we can, but even that’s not good enough sometimes… there’s really no winning with rap fans. we can’t make up news, we just post what’s out there and what people give a fuck about or what we think they might/should give a fuck about… I don’t know what else we can do (otherwise we’d be doing it)

  7. FISTICUFFS aka God's Favorite Says:

Nate, I don’t even listen/watch half of what’s posted. When fuckery goes down, I look to see what Nah has to say about it. What makes Daily Math great is Combat Jack going off like an old head on subjects and dropping that True Brooklyn Stories type of vibe with his posts. That’s cool to me.

I understand with the content you three have to put up that it might be hard to touch on subjects/fuckery like that on the daily, but as a lurker I appreciate hearing what Nah has to say, much better than that ho Illseed. No slurps.

  13. Yeah Right Says:

How i see it Nate is you, Dre and Eskay are deeper in rap than 90% of people who read this blog, which means if you have some knowledge to drop or comments to give, people are going to listen. Other sites/bloggers *cough*illseed*cough* do it wrong trying to cover hip hop like a Black TMZ, that’s foul.

You three and the comment section give it the barbershop feel, but if you have words to add without sounding like Ricki Lake and shit then people are still going to read and people are still going to pay attention when fuckery goes down. No slurps. Fuck illseed.

  20. nation Says:

another thing… even though eskay has never taken shit from the comments (and that’s since day one) I still like to dip in here and see what you guys are saying/thinking. like, I’ll sit here and go back and forth with Amp over his allegations, as absurd as they might be (I see you land… or do i?) and then I’ll even fight for you guys in conversations when people big us up but shit on y’all, because even though percentage wise you guys don’t size up to the whole of our visitors, you’re still an integral part of the site, in my opinion.

because honestly most of the time when I’m posting, I’m doing it for yall. it’s either shit I figure you guys would like to see or I’m writing it on behalf of the comments as a whole. my opinion on posts is from the perspective of an admin but I’m a commenter first and foremost. I’ll be the first to admit that i’m not a writer. but the thing is, that has little to do with blogging. if you guys wanna read words, go to allhiphop and read them regurgitate press releases. blogging is all about taking that information, realizing that 80% of it is useless and condensing it for your readers. what are we gonna write paragraphs about, a Sheek Louch/Styles P/Bully hood dvd video? there’s nothing to say about it…

but i can’t understand how you guys will shit on us, daily, and then swear by websites like worldstarhiphop… you guys think they’re doing sucha good job? if you see one of your rapper friends on there, ask them how much they paid for that slot and then ask them if we ever replied to their e-mails where they were begging for a post + offering us money. that’ll never happen and we are not the same. you can’t even compare OS to WSHH… WSHH is garbage, purely.

you guys think the rappers we post are garbage? and shouldn’t be posted? you should see the people we pass on. we don’t even listen to new artists anymore because we get all the flack and XXL gets all the praise when they blatantly rip off the artists we fuck with most. there’s honestly no time to even listen to new rappers anymore, whether they’re good or not, because the scope of rappers we have to cover now is so wide, and every old head rapper wants to get back in the game too… because of the internet…

or another thing I don’t is get how Amp will say Nah Right ain’t shit compared to Daily Math (which is his opinion, I don’t mind that) but then copy paste a paragraph that Bol writes about us… are you serious? that guy couldn’t be more misinformed when he writes that shit, but you guys wanna ride with him? what are you doing here then…

that’s why i honestly don’t say much anymore. i just make my posts and keep it moving. all the Nah Right veterans are long gone and the new ones don’t give a fuck like we used to. shit, I wish someone would have talked shit about Nah Right like people do nowadays back then. although we had less traffic/notoriety… every single commenter would pick up their shit and go for the throat of whoever it was… HHDX or XXL

  21. nation Says:

If you go to blogs like Lifehacker and Gizmodo, they post news and stuff, but sometimes they’ll post discussion topics just to get the commenter’s views. Granted, their comments to stay on topic a lot more than the one’s here, but I’m sure it would work to some degree. Of course, a subsite with reviews and a board would be more effective, and I bet lurkers (such as myself) would be more likely to contribute on a board.

  24. Brooklyn Strong aka John Locke of Nah Says:

Keep doing what your doing. If Amp or whoever didnt like to visit nahright we wouldnt see comments from them on a daily basis.

  25. Yeah Right Says:

Nate, what about getting some e-Interns to do some of the grunt work?

  26. nation Says:

    >> Granted, their comments to stay on topic a lot more than the one’s here,

also, they don’t have commenters like we do. they get more traffic then us, so they have a lot of comments, but it’s not the same people commenting over and over again on regular posts. so that post that they put up “for their commenters” is just to get people to comment aka make readers become commenters. but I see what you’re saying, we should eventually pot some shit and be like “wow… we have nothing to say, comments… take it away” – that’ll get people rolling and truly appreciating how funny you guys are sometimes/notice that you CAN be on topic

it’s just that every site doesn’t have a community like we do. they either only post shit that gets a reaction from their readers, which then becomes comments… or they have spam. we have something that’s almost like a message board/forum in the comments of a blog

    >> a subsite with reviews and a board would be more effective

man, we’d be going backwards, honestly. first of all, who has the time to sit there and review an album when the shit just leaked and everyone made up their minds on it. the days of getting an album two weeks in advance of everybody are long gone. we get it at the same time as yall, and if we do get it earlier… we can’t even tell anybody

    and a board… come on man, this isn’t 2004

    >> Keep doing what your doing. If Amp or whoever didnt like to visit nahright we wouldnt see comments from them on a daily basis.

thank you man, but I’m telling you, what he says doesn’t bother me that much, it’s the fact that he thinks it and feels the need to say it. if what I’m doing really is that bad, people need to tell me so I can change it…

  27. nation Says:

    >> Nate, what about getting some e-Interns to do some of the grunt work?

  28. Yeah Right Says:

Like a real intern. You can have one person who can go through e-mails, put up posts with just video or audio and do the work that it takes you all day to do, it’ll take some of the burden off of all of your shoulders. If you have a great deal of tedious work to do, why not get someone who’s hungry, wants the experience of working on a blog and is willing to volunteer?

  29. Eastern_Digital aka Nahright's Fantasy Football champ Says:

if you guys wanna write reviews, sure, but you guys are treacherous and would fuck up our political connects (what up Walay!)

    ^^
we already review shit in the comments, no need to write an essay about it, unless for comical purposes.

Also with the internet and every album/mixtapes just some clicks and a few minutes away, reviews became kinda obsolete cuz you can check that shit out yourself. back in the day you wanted some opinion on whether spendin money on a cd or not. Cuz Buyin weed for 15 bucks you save>>>>>> spendin 15 bucks on a weedplate

  30. nation Says:

like, I thought I was doing eskay a solid by making sure the site was updated while he was busy, but that week we got nothing but backlash and negative feedback… so am I really doing him a favor? or just making things worst than if we’d just leave the site the way it is until he comes back. and for what though? cause I was trying to update the site/trying out new post formats? people keep saying me and Dre are ruining the site, but there’s no other alternative really. eskay can’t make every single post, the man’s been doing this shit every day for the past 5 years…

and all this shit about Drake… is it that serious? I know people felt a certain way when I started posting his shit but he blew up and is damn near the biggest thing in the game right now… 1. wasn’t I right? 2. why wouldn’t we post him? although commenters seem to hate his guts, like i tried to explain yesterday, the man has more fans than haters, and his fans want to know what’s up with him, and you would think I’d enjoy shedding light on the great moves rappers are making over talking about the stalemate careers the other guys have made for themselves… that’s just common sense, no? if it’s interesting news to me, I figure it would get the readers attention

it’s like, what else can we do? who else can we get to update the site the way me and Dre seem to be only able to, and that’s only because we’ve been doing it for so long. again, this job is much harder than you’d think… but i’m not complaining

Message boards sound outdated, but look at how much cash Boxden is making off of their community. Nah Right is a far bigger name than Boxden is, so the community aspect of it would help Nah grow. I think it would be a good business move.

  32. why? Says:

As Hip Hop fans I admit we bitch about the genre as much as peoples girlfriends bitch with their friends about fashion trends and designers. I’m not even saying comment on shit like the John Mayer incident. Yesterday you replied to my comment about Drake and you mentioned things that never even came to my mind. Shit like that would be good. Others WILL see things different but I’m just a young dude and know more or less than others. Some shit just needs to be said because a lot of us might not really understand some things going on in Hip Hop. You guys probably don’t post your opinions as much as before on something because maybe yeah somebody like Amp responded but still it’s not like most the commenters or whoever is lurking and reading our comments is agreeing with the dude or whoever is disagreeing with you 3. A board or forum wouldn’t be necessary but maybe just like a even a few times a week posting like your thoughts on some shit at the moment would be cool. I personally wouldn’t even mind you guys adding a Nahright.com/opinion section.

I honestly believe we bitch about the posts and how they are neglected because maybe somebody thinks you guys just doing it for the money and/or maybe just don’t give a fuck anymore but the way I see it now IMO this is Nahright.com/news and you posting what going on right now but still at the end of the day I just think the posts are a good representation of the status quo of the game. We all frustrated because Act II ain’t come out yet maybe you dudes can just speak your mind on that too since you dudes are Nah Right and we are just the commenters.

Yeah there are more viewers on Nah than commenters but still maybe that person who’s visiting can learn some shit and they gonna see things different at the end of day because people on here gotta admit that most followers of the genre are stupid.

yeah but it’s like, when it comes to Drake shit, I’m practically a scientist on the matter but I can’t say nothing about dude other than deliver the news because then it’s dickriding. if I don’t say anything, people are gonna think I know something and I’m withholding information OR “he had nothing good to say so he didn’t go in on him, smh” which is all bullshit really. I say what the fuck I want on posts anyway, sometimes there’s nothing to say

if I post my opinion, people say STFU we don’t care about your opinion. if I state a pure fact, people will say I’m biased… so I’ll just pass on the information I get and keep it moving. that’s it really. people don’t wanna hear what we have to say so we’ll just give you what you want. but then don’t say we don’t editorialize enough, because it’s sorta all of your faults, and ours

but I see what you mean… I learned A LOT about rap on Nah Right – posts. comments too, but it was the posts that really made want to look into it and do the knowledge, and sort of catch up with everything eskay knew about the game or had to say. that’s as honest as I can get about this shit

but at the same time, we have such well-informedreaders, that I think mentioning every single detail is a bit much and wouldn’t be met well. also, we have so many readers, we can’t get down into the nitty gritty side of things like we used to, they just wouldn’t understand it…

I’d agree with you, but Pitchfork gets a great deal of views off of their reviews alone. People go on and just look at the ratings of the review and move on. Same with track reviews. It would be cool if there was a “Funny Or Die” type of rating system commenters could leave for a track. If it’s on point then people will vote it up. FWIW, I’ve been on this site for a few months [maybe a year] before I started posting recently, and I almost ALWAYS read the comments. I barely understood the brint of the posts, and to an extent this is still true but the comment section is always entertaining and enlightening.

I don’t really see the need to change anything, as far as the site goes. Honestly, people get into discussion all the time. Most of my posts are either light jabs and that landlord fella or posts about hip hop. I make long posts that present an alternate view on hip hop [more basic pop music theory] to the one that is dominant on this site [genre-based purism]. So far most of my longer posts have been met with good discussion. Yesterday that happened on that Drake at the all-star game post I think. Some good talk.

If there’s something that stifles discussion, it’s the inside nature of the non-music discussion here, as many posters seem to know each other well. I remember there was a post about Michael Eric Dyson on that Chicago kids getting killed, and people were talking about outdoor sex experiences. That being said, I would NOT do anything to change this, and this is big coming from a guy who has no idea what you guys are on about when you’re on those tangents. Those things are what separate this from other sites, and the little I understand of them are often very entertaining.

Kids who don’t have options (or think they don’t) cling to being a rapper because they think it’ll get them out of their situation with little effort.
