Video: Common Remembers J Dilla: “Greatest Producer Ever”

Common talks about working with Dilla on Like Water For Chocolate nearly a decade ago, and how Dilla is also Pharrell, Kanye and Questlove’s favorite producer.

“I never seen a producer sit there and have so much revere for music and so much respect for it. I’ve seen everybody from Pharrell to Kanye, to Questlove … and I’m like, ‘Man, that’s my favorite producer.’ I think music would be in a different place if he was here. He provided so much inspiration.

He made sounds that would be anything from the rawest of hip-hop to something like sounds flowing against Radiohead, and he would play some of the instruments.”

    Internet’s the new t.v. (c)Lloyd Banks

^that line is so fucking truthful it’s unreal. And I’m not even a G-Unit fan like that.

Basically technology is changing small aspects of humanity – the outcome of which is unknown. And because these changes are tech driven, it’s hard to use history as an indicator of said outcomes.

Case in point; how many of you have memorized your parents’ phone numbers? Any other numbers that you would’ve otherwise had to remember 15 years ago?

that’s a diffrent hting handwriting, but i agree…like 15 years ago ppl used to hove address books, nowadays they only save their shit on their phones and get all hysterical when they loose it or when it breakes.

to answer your question: off the head(nh) i know like 15-20 numbers.

  7. PHENOMENON Says:

    Dilla!! WORLDWIDE!!

  8. Bricktop Says:

Damn 15-20?! Fuck! At this point the only one I can recite without effort is my grandma’s, and that’s only because her shit hasn’t changed since the Vietnam war.

But idk. I just find this shit fascinating. Like what are the long term effects of all this constant exposure to radiation from all of our portable devices – on a global scale? Shits not as regulated by the FCC as we would like to think. As a species are we literally going to talk ourselves to death? How safe can it be to have an electronic device constantly emitting radio frequency waves by our balls everyday of our lives?

These are all questions that we’ve never had to ask ourselves before.
