Ok I see. You from New York right?

Not understanding the words in the music and the mealy mouth has always been the appeal of black music to some extent. It dates back to the slave days when people would sing songs so their masters wouldn’t understand it. It even extended into the blues era and the gospel era as well. That was always the draw and people were intrigued by that, it just so happens that it extends into southern rapping, which is why its on top right now from people everywhere.

southern rap is not “on top” for that reason… if it is even on top at all… southern rap only gets more exposure because it more clearly perpetuates the coonish images that the label heads want to perpetuate… lets not act like Gucci and wacka flocka are parlaying secrets codes about locations of the underground railroad stops, or plotting massa’s demise by storming the mansion … them niggas is paid to be ignorant miscreants … please dont act like its about talent …

I think Rae’s style of coke rap is waaay more creative and descriptive than Ross’. Rae almost spits lyrical movies [ll] in my opinion, and his point of view is more tangible, closer to the reality of the situation. Ross is more first person bullshit really trying to make you believe he is in control of all coke in 15 states. Like this cat really is Tony Montana or some shit. That shit is wack…we could all spit Ross’ bars just from the things we’ve seen in the movies.

There is no such criteria as “talent” when it comes to making music. How is not southern music not on top? It’s evident everywhere and even on this blog site. Your mistake is being a gate guarder of music. There is no one way to rap or to make a track. The energy of New York music fell off, because all good things come to an end. The music got stale and Music has never stayed in one place or had the same sound. Gucci mane and wacka are just chips off the old block, it has nothing to do with escaping to the underground rail road for a better life. That is the southern way of making music, just like Northern music is more stringent and rigid in its nature, but also more thoughtful and analytical. Coonish images are portrayed in all forms of rap, including east and west. Gun toting and coke rapping is coonish in its nature as well. It just doesnt extend to one region of the country.

  8. rex hussla Says:

The “South” claims like 50% of the US map though…most other demographics consist of one city or one state

thats true.. but southern MCs are the Kings Of Coonery… for every NY Coke Rapper there’s a conscious rapper in NY trying to balance him out… in the South for every 1,000,000 coons, there is one Jay electronica… the ratio of ignorance and coonery to more conscious MCs in southern rap, is startling …

    what??

so why are there talent shows and american idol and battles and whatnot??.. why do contracts differ for different artists… maybe just in southern rap, talent is not a criteria… that, i give you …

the south is a metaphor for the serpent brain

the north is a metaphor for the real brain

whatever is on top is what people are thing with

clearly the north is no longer relevant

    and stop talking to yourself

The Conscious rapper gets limited play in New York and if you’re not searching for music in the underground world. Most people heard Puffy, Mase, Jay-z, DMX, Camron etc. Which is considered very silly and ignorant music by most. There are conscious southern rappers as well, but they are super underground and Nobody dares searches for them. But “coonery” is all subjective because the previous generation would say that All hip-hop is nonsense with no real merit. Also New York rappers are more “conscious” in nature because it the black generations escapism to the north provided a more intellectual based music which is reflected in rap. Generally blacks escaped for a better life and for education to which the music reflects that. A more lyric based rap in its nature, where as southern music is still reflecting its old customs. There really is no right or wrong way to make music, its just in the eye of the beholder.

Ok so then why does wayne get the pass for kissin a man on the lips? Yall niggas gotta make up yall mind. Wats the world comin too? The homo gets accepted by all but the liar gets rejected, when ALL rappers lie. GTFOH

Talent is not defined by a square box. You can’t describe but you know it when you see it. Talent evolves as generations pass on. You think Your grandma saw the “talent” in Rakim? Hell No. To confine talent to an objective state is like saying everyone gotta rap like Cannibus, or a variation. There’s talent in Heavy metal. I might not can’t see it cause I don’t fuck with it. But I can’t say that a person has no talent just because of my specific preferences for music. Now if there is a genre of music thats being made in the same vein, I can for sure say who has talent compared to the previous person or the next person. Where as Lloyd Banks is garbage and lacks talent to other New York Rappers and Lil Flip was trash in the same vein to southern rappers.
