Video: Copyright Criminals (PBS Documentary)

Copyright Criminals examines the history and influence of musical sampling, provoking debates about copyright, compensation, and creativity in the age of intellectual property.

Featuring remarks from hip-hop and electronica artists as well as George Clinton and ex-James Brown drummer Clyde Stubblefield, whose works have been heavily sampled.

I saw a trailer for this documentary a few months ago, I’m glad PBS picked it up. Props to YN for the rip.

LMAO at people comparing Iraq to Haiti though

Like Haiti actually has anything worth occupying

    ———–

the island of Hispaniola (Haiti /D.R) would be a perfect Naval base… since Cuba and now Puerto Rico has been off limits for USMilitary operations, the US Military is in need of a strategic presence in the Carribean … shit is almost common sense … the Marines/Pentagon will be running Haiti in months

    Ill say it again…

Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11.. we had no business there.. there were never any WMDs.. ever… yet right now we are actively occupying that country… tell me if that makes any since…

Haiti is rubble.. right now is the opertune time to take that country under the guise of “helping to restructure” that country..

how is it that no one can see this?

better yet.. how can anyone say this is a good thing?

    ^^

Exactly…sad as it sounds, this is the perfect time to covertly conquer Haiti…If they got an army in Haiti, that can defeat the Haitian army, who REALLY runs the country…? Thats the question…

This is nothing new, its a tried & tested technique…and Haiti are in no position to even try & defend themselves…

If I ran a country trying to be “the most powerful nation in the world” I’d do exactly the same thing

  16. f5f5 nigga reload Says:

if you think about it, the only downside for haitians if the US occupied is that, they would feel as though they lost their independence. But on the flip, I’m sure they would welcome the restructuring, the jobs that will come about as a result etc…

military bases are like little cities now… mad employment opportunities for civilians and military… even the surrounding communities get a financial boost from all that military payday money being spent at the local establishments off base…

^ I think niggas main gripe is the fact that the US motivation might be one other than helping the people and restoring order. But still regardless of the motive, many Haitians will benefit from US occupation.

who is this directed at, and who knows who will do what to whitey… i personally could kill several of them if presented the right opportunity … but why stoop to their level of evil when you know that prophecy and history both point to their eventual downfall?… as a younger man i was ready to die for revolution… now i am more logical, and ready for the evil of the white man’s deeds, to come back to haunt his own self… if you look closely its already begun… so ill wait this natural selection thing out until further notice..

That’s been one of my main arguments of “artist for art or artist for business”. I’ve always been on the artist for art side in that as long as the art is experienced (be it seen/heard etc) then I wouldn’t care because monetarily I’d have a job to support me but I also understand that if art is your profession you’d want to be compensated. I also think the latter has kinda fucked up most segements of artistry because people are starting to view arts as business only and not just having an awesome gift.
