phonte created that core workin w/nicolay and it was a LOT of mahfuckas w/different musical taste checkin for their shit. by the time the listenin came out they were like the ATCQ heirs to that sound and EVERYBODY was checkin for that shit. then they come out talkin about crackers on TMS and basically threw up a image brick w/everyone who thought they were just gonna keep it good music.
the getback? it was alright but not a good follow up as far as content message and group mission statement.
why y’all think pooh goes in as a soloist?
or why ninth left?
the ship started to take on water cuz someone on it was punchin holes in it.
And GetBack was dope as fuck. Just not what people were expecting from LB.
And while Minstrel Show was classic, the common hiphop fan (who can still make you famous even if they’re not buying your records), and hiphops elite (Jay, TI, Jeezy, etc) were probably offended or annoyed by the heavyhandedness message. Just like commercial cats were on some “fuck the Roots” shit after “What They Do.
But Buddens?? Fucking Joe Buddens??? And I understand you’re from Jersey, but BUDDENS???
Why do niggas talk like this? Like Joe Budden isn’t ridiculously ill with it. Like, do niggas know how dope son is? Just listen to Escape Route. I laugh at niggas that call him a punchline rapper, like MM2 and MM3 don’t exist.
And just to reiterate, Joey dropping a wack debut is the reason he’s not a star. No one to blame but himself. And I know that has nothing to do with what we’re talking about, but I wanted to say that.
buddens drops some insane tracks (cosign the er intro), but can drop some lame shit also. padded room definitely has some wack tracks. the more emo joe goes, usually the better the music. but not everyone likes their hip hop dripping with emotion, so i could see the other side of the coin
dumb out convinced me that budden had bars, but i doubt he will ever release anything resembling a classic. if his kid dies or they bring back segregation i may be wrong, it seems pain and discontent fuels his best work.
The Shakespeare of coke rap…anybody can adopt that tired ass NY Mixtape spit a 16 with trite punchlines using polysyllabic rhyme scheme type steez…i give credit to the Thornton brothers not only for delving into the more instrospective aspects of the dboy lifestyle, but also for being fresh stylistically and choosing unconventional production to convey their message
Goddamn the boy’s back
From pushing a mountain of snowcaps to avoiding the kojak
The pioneer of the coke rap
I’m dancing with the stars/stepping on blow/doing the toe-tap
The dope return like I had it on Lo-Jack
It made its way home like a road map
I fathered this
If I mislead any kid that’s fatherless
That burden’s on my soul as long I exist
They saying they can’t reach us
The answer is the Lord like Saturday Night Fever
I kept in the crib, it made me a light sleeper
Whether watching for the Feds or avoiding the Grim Reaper.
We’re deeper than rap, money and hoes, it’s deeper than that
Fight the temptation but it keep coming back
Money stacked to the ceiling just as quick as it dispense
Who knew them comments meant you could lose your common sense?
Before it’s too late all I can tell ‘em is Repent.
I heard they snitchin’ on a player man say it aint so
Even as a young’n they consigned me to blow
Witches claims why I’m worth my weight in gold
While they was taking baby steps from an 8th to an O
Word in the streets that can envy as me
Enough ice on that watch to make a nigga lose sleep
Magnified face help the bitch see clearly
9 on the waist hit the bitch up severely
I’m know for the flip of that coke I enaa
I’m heavy in the street like the 7 series Bimma
Man, hit ‘em with the Nina man
Or that 4/5th guaranteed to lean ya man (Whoa)
I’m the reason that your block is vacant
Malicious will hit ya just to make a statement
Bitch! Clipse and Cash Money who aint rich
Don’t compare me to you nigga you aint this (Whoa)
[...] Jim Jones f. Rev Run “Wishing On A Star” [mp3] More throwback Jim Jones mashin! This time courtesy of DJ Cassidy, who I always feel a little bad about not playing O’Neal McKnight for, they both seem like nice enough chaps. Can’t go wrong with Sucker MCs EVER. [...]
