yeah, that was flavor. the band killed it with a spot-on re-creation of that great dilla beat.

fallon talks so fast sometimes, i could barely make out the names of the female backup singers. i believe he said amber and haile of the dirty projectors? whoever they were, they recreated that vocal sample *perfectly*. i actually googled them after the performance was over, apparently they’re from a BK-based experimental rock band. mos and kwa keep it BK to the death. ha.

big up to mos for that “remember the cherokees, remember the originals” outro. especially around *this* time of year

^Yo, that Jay Z empire state is quite epic (No captain obvious)…i hear the jawn in bars down south with random buffy type sorority chicks singing along.

It might could replace the Frank Sinatra jawn…for me it does (no racialist)

Sadly this is what passes as the stamp of approval for Hip-Hop relevance/hotness in this era.

Big Ups to Mos (I see you on that “remember the Cherokee/Originals) and Kweli.

    Peace.

^actually I was illustrating/referring to how suprising it is that a lyrical hip-hop song has such a wide mainstream appeal. Jay-Z won with that 1.

  16. 88-Keys Says:

They NAILED this. The Roots (along with the back up singers) amazingly sound EXACTLY LIKE the late/great J. Dilla’s sample chops. Incredible! Mos’ & Kwe’ were looking sharp too. Ahhh… Don’t you just love it when you see hip hop all grown up? *kudos*
