^ do yourself that favor… Only thing about ran, is his repetitious flow can get boring after a while.

Best bet is to introduce a little Hitch in order to mix it up a bit

Okay since ni99as want a speech here go. I feel like Lupe goes in with complex rhyme schemes and a lot of shit you gotta do research to decipher.. sometimes taking away from the effectiveness of the song @ first listen. He is one of the most complex writers ever to grace the Mic = Nasir.

Jay Elec makes bold, powerful statements but its all from a persoanl assertion. You can’t dispute his street cred and you can’t deny his skill, however it doesn’t require too much research to get the point he’s making = JayZ.

At least this is how I view them.

honestly fam, i think jay e is just as deep (n) as lupe… maybe the delivery is different.. but both of them are on some deep shit at times….

to compare them to jay and nas doesnt quite work.. thats just how i see it. You may have been better comparing them to maybe mos and black thought?

    am i wrong on this?

And after checking that Exhibit C song and hearing Jay Elec and JB together, it’s obvious dude has skills…

But he’s no deeper than NaS or Lupe or anybody else kicking that kinda stuff. You guys go nuts for him (nh) and all, and I can see why you’d appreciate him, but he’s not really that deep–and don’t let the “Rey” character on Nah fool you, I’m usually good at catching the subtleties in stuff like that.

  23. KzA Says:

JCole is on a whole different level and will continue to be for a while

  24. Rick the new intern Says:

i will admit, fash didn’t kill nothing really but the intro, the rest of it was a well played out story. you guys need to listen to his mixtapes though: the phenom 1 and 2 are probably two of the best mixtapes i’ve ever heard. he goes over common’s be and all sorts of amazing shit.

  35. Mr. Damn, He Ain't Coppin' That, Is He? Says:

both jay elec and lupe are pit-bull rappers who attack the verse and shit on lesser MCs but, for my money, lupe is the most versatile and talented MC in the game. his last freestyle showed that he can bust an ignorant little freestlye and shut the game down with that, but then songs like “dumb it down” prove that he can shit on even rappers like canibus with his intellectual wordplay. yes i’m a fucking stan. but if you’re gonna stan for anyone, why not stan for the best.

LOL.. He’s good, the kinda rapper we obviously need more of, but so far I detect no real next level-ish, just the apparent evolution of a guy who grew up on good rap wanting to make good rap–no jayceon taylor.

@ 456 I’m sure there’s more stuff to catch on to thru repeat listens, but I caught a lot, don’t mistake my saying “Oh, okay, I think I get it–he’s like NaspeFiasco” for “Oh he’s not that good.”

^i hear you, but jay electronica is impressive content-wise even stacked against nas. lupe’s illness is conceptual and in his head. but jay electronica is deep emotionally and intellectually. which is why gravity’s jay/nas lupe/jay elec comparison was lazy to me. the differences between jay/nas and jay elec/lupe are not comparable really.

  50. 456 Says:

^reasonable doubt was more indecipherable to the average listener than illmatic. a lot of jay’s references were strictly for other dope dealers…

  51. J HUSTLE Says:

J.Cole is dat nigga str8 up and down. Im checkin 4 his new releases more than any other rapper alive right now and his forthcoming album is #1 on my list of most anticipated albums to drop

  52. Gravity Says:

You know what erks me the most? When nuccas keep saying you can’t catch the frequency this or can’t catch this or it went over your head that…

Break it down then! Let hear what Jay Elec said that was sooo out of this world that ni99as need to hail him on Messiah status? I like the dude’s music just like the next man, I understand it too.. maybe i’m dl’ing the wrong versions or som’n.
