Curtis: “You can’t be gangster Jay from Marcy and be the good guy Jay-Z on Oprah”

Big Joe LaPuma over @ Complex caught up with Curtis and asked him about the perceived tension between him and Dr. Dre, BISD, Fat Joe’s first week numbers, Jadakiss, Em’s exclusion from and Gucci Mane’s #6 spot on the MTV Hottest MCs list and more.

Here he takes his turn in the ongoing war of the soundbites/pull quotes between him and Hov:

Complex: Getting back to Jay-Z, who ended up #1 on the list. Much has been made of his recent comment that “no one is afraid of 50 Cent.” Regardless, it seems like the general public agrees that Kanye wouldn’t have pulled that stunt if you were on stage instead of Taylor Swift…

50 Cent: He wouldn’t. You can’t convince the public, you can’t convince Kanye to say he would’ve did that. If I was there and he did that to me we would have had an altercation. Right there. It’s clear. He [Kanye] would have avoided that, just being intelligent. The interviewer who asked [Jay-Z] about the Kanye situation made him feel like a punk. His presentation is really simple and you can’t have both. You can’t be gangster Jay from Marcy and be the good guy Jay-Z on Oprah. You just can’t. They don’t let you in. That’s Mr. Knowles, he just got that pass. There ain’t any tickets to an inauguration ball with niggas. If you’re from the hood, you have that element or that aura around you, there’s no tickets for you. It’s “safe” people there. This is why those things are happening. This is why he has to convince the person that he’s talking to he’s not afraid of anyone.

Give me a break Curtis, you act like you’re still in the streets.  I guess the ball’s in Jay’s court now.

the fact that the media felt it important and newsworthy to broadcast Obama’s remarks is symptomatic of the hysteria surrounding the incident. yea he’s a dick, yea he’s an arrogant muhfucka but the vitriol, the passion people had in their hate towards Ye went to the next level for one reason only, and thats cos the young white girl is still america’s most sacred idol.

It was an extension of his beef with Fat Joe. Fat Joe begats Khaled, who begats Ross.

I’m not saying he shouldve, but it falls right in line with him dissing people that associate with cats he can’t stand.

And Tookie wrote a bunch of kids books, so there’s definetly a prescedent for “gangstas” being functionally literate.

Home was like 80% reggae B. Girls brucking out everywhere! lol. They were grinding hard after last call. It was kinda crazy. If the girls dress up for Halloween in there, it’d be off the hook!

Oh shit , now I remember, at the corner of Peter and Richmond I think, I went to embassy a couple weeks ago and they are right beside each other. Wayne wonder was performing there I think. I totally forgot about girls dressing up in Halloween costumes….what was I thinking? Scratch that prior thought I’ll def be trying to reach out after lol

    omplex: Right…

50 Cent: If you looked at Ready to Die, Reasonable Doubt, Illmatic, those artists would probably tell you that that record was written for their neighborhood. Those are the records that they are working to live up to and can’t quite match because they got big. Reasonable Doubt wasn’t even a gold record. It went gold after the other albums were successful. Illmatic too. Imagine 50 Cent now with a gold record. It just doesn’t work. Those artists no longer can create the aggressive content, because they shifted their lives to where they can’t create from a genuine space.

I am so tired of this damn coon. Always starting beef. He is never going to be on Jay-Z’s level. Money doesn’t buy intelligence!!! Jay is not phony, just smart. Why work hard to get out of the ghetto and not enjoy the perks of success? The line from D.O.A is perfect:

“I don’t be in the project hallway
Talkin’ bout how I be in the project all day
    That sounds stupid to me,”

Niggas need to break the fuckin crab in the barrel mentality

  114. sam maximus Says:

Yeah, 50 gotta point bout Jay, but the fact that it’s coming from him makes it quite laughable. 50 been a walking paradox for a minute now. Why he feels he needs to point out Jay’s inconsistencies baffles me, considering his own clown tendencies.

50 ain’t nothing but a ole insecure ass (n) nigga that’s coming to the realization that his *target market* will never give a fuck (n) about him again as they did when he dropped GRODT.

Damn, how many ni99as got Jay name in their mouth on a daily, jus str8 hating. The list is endless, it must be mad stressful when your own colleagues want your downfall more than anybody else. Tell me 50 won’t glady replace his fuckin’ “waitin-to-belaid-brick” BISD for BP3.. Talkn’ about Mr. Knowles, jus str8 hate.

    smh

  117. rrahha Says:

i see what he meant, he’s going back to the thing about jay feeling he has to tell people “nobody’s scared of 50” instead of addressing the interviewer. basically he’s saying that jay wants people to view him as “gangster marcy” jay and “oprah, beyonce, good guy” jay. but they’re not. He’ saying that they’re seeing him as good guy, mr. approachable jay completely not as the gangster anymore.

Is this guy a joke…? This is the same clown who was on Rachael Ray cook show, CNBC and a load of other shit…so let me guess ….you just can’t be the 9 time shot, crack dealer, bullet proof wearing AGGRESSIVE CONTENT writing guy and still be on Rachael Ray?? lol

SMH at the 50 stans who defend this idiot….or buy any of his shit post GRODT

  121. spirit equality Says:

LOL @ 50 copping pleas for why Before I Self Desruct got pushed back…if he had put out a single that exploded at radio, you think Jimmy wouldn’t put his record out? 50 hasn’t been able to smash radio like that since ayo technology.

and LOL @ him not being able to see the lack of logic between him deading his beef with Jada, but continuing his beef with Joe, when both beefs originated from both men being on “New York” with Ja. Then, he contradicts himself again by refusing to criticize Dre for rolling with Game. So, you can rap with whoever you want as long as Em likes you?

^^^ the writer didn’t even remind him to respect the fact the big isn’t alive right now, so to talk all this nonsense about what record big couldn’t create post-ready to die is absurd (not to mention all the hard records that were on life after death *and* all the aggressive records nas and jay made after their debuts)

  129. lea Says:

“i dont be in the project hallways, talking bout how i be in the project allday, that sounds stupid to me” so Curtis doesnt have a boardroom persona, or a mainstream persona. i see why some people really dont like him at all. Rick Ross 2009 > 50 Cent 2009

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Agreed!! Like him or not; real or fake, Ross’ DTR LP is a great album. 50’s responses to Ross were little skits? Gold, Platinum or wood, at least Ross’ CD was met with more gr8 reviews even if the sales were lacking. When’s the last time 50 or any G-Unit artist had a good album? 50 is good at dissecting other artists’ numbers, but when it comes to G-Unit, he seems to put on blinders. That’s called being a hypocrite. His whole career is hypocritical because he condemned Ja for singing, but after GRODT, he was more Curtis Mayfield than Kurtis Blow. He stole ja’s style now he wants to get hard again? Didn’t Ja try that too? Blood In My Eye is a hard album, but too late. Hammer tried it too. So did Vanilla Ice. If you are gonna be hard, be hard. Don’t crossover!!

As far as the beef with Ross, 50 lost the battle. Those Pimpin Curly skits while funny are not what battling is about. Anyone can that. 50 is good at starting beef, but when rapper/mc brings it to him, he doesn’t know what to do. Ross is the first major artist to go at him out of the blue. I can’t stand this nigga. 50 do the real hip hop fans a favor and quit. Don’t even drop BISD. I am downloading that shit. I will not pay this buffoon!!
