Video: Dr. Dre Invites Jay-Z To Rap On Detox

via MTV:

Songs that leaked from Dr. Dre’s Detox recording sessions earlier this year revealed that Nas and R. Kelly are among the artists in consideration to appear on the long-awaited opus. And T.I., Lil Wayne and Drake are among the MCs believed to be ghost-writing for the album.

But if Dre gets his way, a certain renowned Brooklyn rhymesmith will be pulling double-duty on Detox, both writing and delivering a guest verse.

“Well, actually, Jay-Z’s just been in the studio doing some writing,” Dre told MTV News on Friday while promoting his new Beats By Dre/HP notebook collaboration. “Hopefully I’ll get him to perform on the record. Jay, come holler!”

Detox is the follow-up to Dre’s 2001 album and will complete the trilogy that began with 1992’s The Chronic.

In May, a snippet of a Detox track was released on a Dr. Pepper commercial that features Dre. The song, tentatively titled “Shit Popped Off,” features production similar to a track that leaked in February with Tip referring Dre’s vocals. “It’s the D.R. … Made the West side worldwide, no PR/ Gangsta-rap God, I’m the end-all, be-all/ California love from the Bloods to the C-Dogs.”

Earlier this month, Dre told ABC News Dre revealed he’d like to finally put the finishing touches on Detox by the end of this year in time for a 2010 release. “Hopefully, I’ll get it done at the end of this year, and we can hear it next year,” the normally press-shy producer said.

I’ll give DMX 2 classic albums (which is a blessing to ANY rapper) but his music became repetitive after Fomfbomb (flesh of my flesh……….)

then It was X was my joint, but i’ll never forget the old head (that was prolly 30 at the time) telling me that X uses the same formula for ever single, or every song, ruff ryders anthem, sounds like what ya’ll want, which sounds like we right here, which sounds like the solo on the first ruff ryders anthem, he never evolved.

SMH @ niggas that was saying he was nicer than jigga.

DMX couldn’t rap his way out of a wet paper bag.

He could make great, classic songs, but let’s not get it confused like he was a lyrical wordsmith or something. Truthfully, he should get the same flack as niggas like pac and fiddy get (which is both better than him all around the board) but niggas stay giving dog man a pass, he’s one of the worst rappers ever, as far as lyrics

To be honest, I really stopped checkin for X after Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of my Blood. …And Then There Was X had a few bangers but it was average. First album almost a classic. Other than that..blah

    ^^
This. 100% cosign. Party Up might be my least favorite song ever. I hate it with all my heart.

Mobb Deep’s place in hiphop history > X’s place in hiphop history

When its all said and done.

  10. Big Homie Says:

Dont get me wrong, I think Dre is one of the best producers ever do it..one of of and I am waiting for Detox but this wait kinda has me not interested in it like that. Like a few weeks before it drops (if it drops) I’ll hop the bandwagon. Its like waiting for this chick to give it up for the past few months and then not interested and then when she says she is about, you all on it.

The only think I’ve been waiting for hardcore is that LOX album. Yea Im a stan but so what LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOXXXXXX

  11. Big Homie Says:

sorry for the typos..Im on two calls and typing up a paper as Im on Nah..lol, but you know what I mean

  12. Joe 88 Says:

    >*fox news’ it up*

So, you’re saying that 50 Cent = DMX? Or 50 Cent > DMX?

    ^Hell fucking yea rey (n)

    >You can break down ANY MC and say the same stuff.. “Yo, take away the beats, delivery, energy, timing, flow, and say the lyrics in every ComicView comedian’s white guy voice, and yo, that ni**a can’t spit!”

^Naw, you can’t say that, you can take away freeway’s delivery and his shit might sound better coming out of another persons mouth (n) reason why I said that is because DMX whole career is based on his aggresive delivery, take that away from his music and what do you have? Anybody can spit Jay-Z shit and sell records, or atleast get on, word to the stanleys, DMX……….not so much

    >Pfff…. X is a trillion times more lyrical than “She says that I’m not hired, now she says I’m fired” or whatever the fuck.

^He’s actually not, trust me, i’ve listen to alot of both of these guys material and I can say with a straight face that gucci is more lyrical than DMX, and this is not giving gucci any props because i’ve heard niggas drunk freestyle better, lyrical shit than X could ever dream of, X is a old school rapper that just so happen got his break in the late 90’s, rarely will you hear him use a word with more than 2 syllables (sp check?) that’s not lyrical, X wouldn’t even say he’s lyrical, he’s in your face straight to the point, just like 50 is, but fiddy is actaully lyrical at times, which makes 50 > X

    >Again, no shots, but this is a preference thing, like how I don’t give a fuck about Mobb Deep.

^and this is why you keep losing on this fourm, but you still my dog, lol

  15. Rey Says:

@ J88– So, in other words, you have an exgirlfriend that liked DMX. Is that about the long and short of it? (nh)

Nah, it’s basically a preference there. Mobb Deep’s never made one song that’s interested me ever, and I’m a NY homer and every clique from NY has gotten some amount of support from me: Ruff Ryders, Wu Tang, TS, Bad Boy, The Roc, D-Block, G-Unit (at first).. Sheeit, even Murder Inc and the Dips.. I just never, ever got into Mobb Deep’s music.

    Sooo.. IMO, DMX > M-O-B-B

S’just truthiness, BH. Never. Not even hating, cuz I know I’m in the minority here, I just never got into it. I mean, I’ll give ’em “Quiet Storm”, but that probably won’t count. Nothing else I heard ever made me go, “Hmm, I should look into their music more”.

As for Detox… People aren’t gonna care on this site. This album is gonna be more hated on by Nahggers than any project from any other rapper ever, and I can’t blame ’em..

It’s taken too long, there have been too many shelved artists from ShadUnitMathTerscope, too many “ehh” projects from them.. Last two best albums to come from anyone from that whole clique have been *gulp* (nh) The Documentary and Doctor’s Advocate, and we all know how that went.
